BLUE CROSS, NEW FIELD:  Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts sent their "Blue Crew" to the Old Colony YMCA in Stoughton on Tuesday, September 25 and they got things done as part of a volunteer service day. They built a tether ball pit, a bocce court, a washer toss (kind of like horse shoes), a picnic grove with picnic tables, and a new youth/family outdoor fitness area. Dozens of their volunteers did heavy lifting, heavy duty cleaning, and took a brush-filled unused area, and made it come to life. Joe Leaver, Program Director at the Y, was excited after the volunteers left. He stood amid a new picnic grove, and admired all the outdoor fitness areas. "They did an incredible job. We are so appreciative of their volunteer work," he told …

Darkness to Light is a non-profit organization dedicated to teaching adults simple, pro-active steps to help protect children from sexual abuse, according to a March 28 Stoughton Patch article. "Child sexual abuse is not a Y problem, or a school problem, or a church problem or a Penn State problem: it is a community problem, something which will only be mitigated by the education of adults making informed choices for children," said Susan Komisar Hausman, a Darkness to Light facilitator since 2006.
