Which Central Street Intersection in Stoughton has the Most Traffic/Congestion?

The Old Colony Planning Council is conducting a traffic study, which in part will look at Central St. from its intersection with Canton St./Route 27 to the Avon line.

The Old Colony Planning Council (OCPC) is conducting a study of Central Street and Harrison Boulevard from Canton Street (Route 27) in Stoughton to the Route 28 at East and West Spring Street intersection in Avon over the course of the next nine months and seeks your participation. The purpose of this study is to relieve traffic bottlenecks and to develop solutions to enhance traffic flow and improve bicycle and pedestrian safety. One of the questions in the study asks which locations along this stretch of roadway have you experienced the worst congestion? In all honesty, the worst intersection is usually the one I'm stuck in when I have to go somewhere. It could be any of them, it's just the one I'm in, at a particular time, is the worst one. I'm sure many feel the same as I do. They're all bad, depending on the time of day.   more ›

OCPC Seeks Input in Traffic Study of Central Street in Stoughton

List of Most Dangerous Intersections in Massachusetts Includes Two in Stoughton

The Intersections at Washington St./Central St. and Canton St./School St. are among the most dangerous in the state.

The intersections of Washington/Central Streets and Canton/School Streets in Stoughton, are among the most 200 dangerous in the Massachusetts, according to a list released by the state, which tracked crashes and injuries from 2008-2010. This "2008-2010 Statewide Top 200 Intersection Crash List" was included in a WBZ-TV I-Team report. The Washington St. and Central St. intersection is tied for 59th on this list. The intersection includes traffic lights. Still, there have been 77 accidents there from 2008-2010, according to the list, and 15 injuries, but no fatalities. Meanwhile, the Canton St. and School St. intersection is tied for 156th. This intersection does not include traffic lights. There have been 37 accidents there from 2008-2010, …

It would be helpful if they would put an arrow light at Central and Pleasant (Rt 139). It is impossible to take a left turn there, either way, during morning and evening commute. Have seen many accidents there, as drivers try to take the left at the yellow light. Very dangerous...   more ›

OCPC Looking for Stoughton Residents to Fill out Online "Hazard Mitigation Plan" Survey

The Old Colony Planning Council (OCPC) and its 15 member communities are currently engaged in a planning process to become less vulnerable to disasters caused by natural hazards.

The following is a release from the Old Colony Planning Council: Old Colony Planning Council (OCPC) is currently updating the Multi-Jurisdiction Hazard Mitigation Plan for 15 communities on the South Shore, including Stoughton. Hazard Mitigation Plans form the foundation for a community's long-term strategy to reduce disaster losses and break the cycle of disaster damage, reconstruction, and repeated damage. The planning process is as important as the plan itself. It creates a framework for risk-based decision making to reduce damages to lives, property, and the economy from future disasters. Stoughton's Central/Washington St. Intersection a Magnet for Accidents and Congestion

Sunday's hit-and-run crash is the latest accident at Stoughton's Central St. and Washington St. intersection, which has been named one of the most hazardous intersections in the state.

A hit-and-run accident Sunday, July 8 at 8 p.m. at the intersection of Central and Washington Streets in Stoughton sent three to the hospital, including one who was transported to Boston via MedFlight with serious injuries. The crash once again brings attention to one of the most dangerous and congested intersections in town. A truck traveling north on Washington St. Sunday evening went through a red light and hit the driver's side of a sedan traveling on Central St., which was making its way through the intersection at the time, the Brockton Enterprise reports. BOTTLENECK STUDY OF ROUTE 138 CORRIDOR: Ray Guarino, Transportation Planner for the Old Colony Planning Council (OCPC), informed Stoughton Chamber of Commerce members at their June meeting of the OCPC's current analysis of the Route 138 Bottleneck Study, which covers Washington St. from Brock Street to the Canton town line. He told the crowd, "We advocate for the communities. We try to get them funding for transportation studies, as well as traffic signals. We're waiting to hear from the Town of Stoughton to gain a consensus on different projects. For instance, traffic signals at York and Washington Streets. Does the town want signals there? OCPC Looking for Input on Route 138 Corridor in Stoughton

The Old Colony Planning Council (OCPC) is conducting a study of Route 138 in Stoughton (Brock Street to the Canton Town Line) and seeks your participation with an online survey.

Old Colony Planning Council (OCPC) is conducting a Major Bottleneck Study for the Route 138 Corridor in Stoughton this year and would like to get as much public input as possible as the OCPC develops the final report. The geographic scope of the study is the Route 138 corridor from Brock Street (at Zachary’s) to the Canton Town Line. The purpose of this study, according to Jed Cornock, Transportation Planner with the Old Colony Planning Council, is to identify the reasons for the bottleneck conditions on the corridor, provide potential short and long term improvements, and identify possible funding sources for those improvements.
