Drunk Driving An Avon man was arrested in the early morning hours of April 4 for allegedly driving drunk for a third time. Stoughton Police made a motor vehicle stop at 1:13 a.m. on April 4 at the intersection of Page St. and Maple St., and placed two men in custody. Paulo J. The arrest came during a State Police run sobriety checkpoint Friday on Neponset St. in Canton.
A Stoughton woman was arrested Friday in Canton for allegedly driving drunk, according to a press release from the Massachusetts State Police. The State Police conducted a sobriety checkpoint on Neponset Street in Canton April 5, resulting in the arrest of six people for OUI alcohol and drugs with two criminal summons, according to the release. State Police also issued 88 civil motor vehicle citations. Mia Cancel, 46, of Stoughton, was charged with OUI liquor. Those arrested during the sobriety checkpoint in Canton were expected to appear in Stoughton District Court on Monday, according to the release. State Police also conducted a sobriety checkpoint on Route 3A in Lowell on April 6, resulting in the arrest of 12 people for OUI.

Sgt. John Bonney led a pursuit of an alleged drunk driver from Stoughton into Brockton early Sunday morning. The driver, a 29-year-old Randolph man, faces several charges in addition to OUI, including assaulting a police officer.
An alleged drunk driver led Stoughton Police on a high speed chase into Brockton early Sunday morning, according to Executive Officer Robert Devine. Stoughton Police Sgt. John Bonney attempted to stop a vehicle driven by Jayson Zimmerman, 29, of Country Club Dr. in Randolph, on Park St. near Alger Way in Stoughton, but Zimmerman kept driving, with the pursuit eventually ending at 339 Arthur Paquin Way in Brockton, about four miles away, according to the Stoughton Police Log. Zimmerman reached speeds of around 70 during the pursuit, which took place shortly after 1:40 a.m. on March 3, Devine said. Downtown Eyesore to be Rebuilt After years as a public eyesore, the former home of Cheng Du on Washington St. in downtown Stoughton, owned by the Parsons family of Malcolm and Parsons, may soon be rebuilt. The building first suffered a fire a few years ago back in October of 2009, and then the roof collapsed under snow the following winter, in January of 2011. Plans have been submitted to the Stoughton Building Department for a rebuild to the 76,700 square foot property. Drunk driving arrests by Massachusetts State Police increased by 30 percent or more than 1,100 drivers, Massachusetts State Police Superintendent Colonel Timothy Allen said at a press conference outside of Massachusetts State Police headquarters in Framingham Friday morning. As of Dec. 27, 2012 Massachusetts State Police had arrested 4,866 individuals and charged them with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. In 2011, Massachusetts State Police arrested 3,728 individuals. Massachusetts State Police and local police departments will be out in force this holiday weekend looking for drunk, impaired and dangerous drivers on the roads, as part of their Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over holiday campaign.
