Morrissey: A 26-year-old Stoughton man has been arrested and charged with allegedly smuggling drugs into the Norfolk County House of Correction in Dedham by mailing envelopes doctored to appear as if they came from area law firms to avoid detection, according to Norfolk District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey. “Sheriff Mike Bellotti contacted us last month to begin a joint investigation based on information that his department had developed,” District Attorney Morrissey said. “With their partnership, Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to our drug unit executed a search warrant [Tuesday] afternoon on a package that had arrived at the facility. …

Continuing the partnership between the Stoughton Recreation Department and the Norfolk County District Attorney's Office, which has resulted in a popular three-day summer basketball clinic, the two organizations made the camp available to Stoughton youth this past week during February vacation. About 40 children spanning grades 3 through 8 attended the DA's Basketball Clinic held the mornings Feb. 19, 20 and 21 at the O'Donnell Middle School gym. In addition to drills, this three-day clinic also stresses the positive influence participating in sports can have off the court as well. Stoughton School officials and members of the Stoughton Police recently took part in ALICE school shooter response training, hosted by the Norfolk County DA. The program encourages a more flexible response to an active shooter situation.
You wouldn't stay in a building that was filling up with smoke, so why do so if there was an active shooter in the building, Stoughton Police Chief Paul Shastany reasons. The common practice has been for a school to go into lockdown if there was an active shooter in the building, but the more passive approach might not be as effective as a more proactive defense, supporters of the ALICE program say. ALICE - an acronym for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate - was developed by Greg Crane, a former SWAT police officer, and Lisa Crane a school principal. Auricelli Braga pled guilty Wednesday in Norfolk Superior Court to charges stemming from a June 2012 car crash which killed a 64-year-old Stoughton woman, according to the Norfolk County DA's office. Braga is not a legal resident and faces deportation.

The September 29th shooting which killed Stoughton High senior David Wade, long understood to be an accident, has officially been ruled as such, the office of Norfolk Country District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey announced in a press release Friday afternoon. Wade, 17, suffered a gunshot wound to the chest at his Turnpike St. home. He was accidentally shot by his 21-year-old brother. The Norfolk County District Attorney's Office released the name of the victim from Friday afternoon's fatal pedestrian accident. No criminal charges will be filed at this time, according to the DA's office.
The Norfolk County District Attorney's Office has released the name of the toddler killed in Friday afternoon's pedestrian accident in front of the Hansen Elementary School on Central St. in Stoughton. Shayla Lutz, age 3, of Stoughton, was transported from the scene after being hit by a box truck, but did not survive her injuries, according to the DA's office. She was pronounced dead at the Good Samaritan Medical Center. The accident took place at about 2:45 p.m. on September 14.
