The Stoughton Chamber of Commerce held its annual meeting and awards ceremony Jan. 7 at the New England Sinai Hospital. The award recipients all play important roles in helping the food pantries in town.
Giving back to the food pantries has been a focus of the Stoughton Chamber of Commerce and its member businesses be it through donations, helping to deliver food to the pantries, playing a key role in the annual Doin' It For Diane food pantry fundraiser, providing new shelving for the St. Anthony's Food Pantry, or even painting the exterior of the Ilse Marks Food Pantry. So, it is rather fitting that at the chamber's annual meeting, held at the New England Sinai Hospital's Brenner Conference Room Jan. 7, the group honored a number of individuals or businesses who have made a difference in the community, in part because of their work with the food pantries - Anne Havlin, Mark Snyder, Christine Gallagher, Jill O'Keefe, and Stop & Shop. Adams features a lot of self-deprecating humor ("I look just like the guy you have in produce," he quipped to the Stop & Shop contingent in the crowd), and had the audience laughing hysterically. Adams said he was thrilled to be in Stoughton. “It’s a manly-sounding town. It’s not like Beverly, or Seekonk,” he joked. He said he just loved radio. “Radio beats working. I talk sports. People call when they’re drunk. I talk them down. People just …

IRAN SO FAR AWAY: Dr. Mark Durie, spoke Thursday night about "A Perspective on Islam, Christians, and Israel" at Ahavath Torah Congregation in Stoughton. The evening focused on the view of Christians, Jews and Israel through Islam's foundational texts and how that should shape one's understanding on the future of negotiations between Israel and her neighbors, as well as sister democracies. He talked about what happens when non-Muslims live under Muslim rule. They have traditionally been presented with three choices: conversion to Islam, death, or the subservient status known as dhimmitude. His latest book sheds light on that little-understood condition and its contemporary relevance. The Third Choice: Islam, Dhimmitude and Freedom by Durie…
