A list of those Stoughton residents killed in action while serving this country in war.
The following is a list of Stoughton residents killed while serving in the American Revolution, the American Civil War, World War I, World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam Conflict. The Civil War claimed the most Stoughton soldiers (84), while 28 from Stoughton died while serving during World War II. The names of these residents are on a monument at Faxon Park. There are about 150 names on the monument. The names of those killed from World War I to the present are read aloud during the Veterans' Day and Memorial Day ceremonies. The corner of West and School Streets was dedicated to Callanan, who died in February of 2011. The corner of Cedar St. and Independence Ave. was dedicated to Sears, who died in December of 2011.
On a day when Stoughton paid tribute to its soldiers who were killed in action, the town also honored two veterans who recently passed away after devoting much of their adult lives to the Stoughton community, following their service in the armed forces. After Monday's Memorial Day Parade, family and friends of James Callanan and David Sears, two longtime volunteers in town, gathered for Memorial Square Dedications. The corner of West and School Streets was dedicated to James A. Callanan, an Army veteran. Callanan served in the Army from 1950-1952. According to a proclamation from the town, he was the founder of the Stoughton Christmas Parade and was "instrumental" in having the town approve and install special street signs to honor those …

AN AMAZING WEEKEND SALUTE: Stoughton Veterans' Agent Mike Pazyra did it again. He pulled off a perfect day, and a wonderful weekend for memorializing those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country. It may have been the largest Memorial Day Parade crowd in recent memory, and the gatherings at Evergreen Cemetery and the two Memorial Square dedications were also very well attended. The weather, which seemed to threaten rain early on Memorial Day on Monday, cleared up and was just perfect. The weekend started with the reflagging of veterans graves on Saturday, May 26. Dozens of scouts and other interested children got new flags from Pazyra, and went about replacing the worn ones with the clean new flags at Evergreen Cemetery, on …

Memorial Day: What's Closed, What's Open in Stoughton on Monday, May 28, 2012.
Here's the list of what is open and closed in most states on Memorial Day this year, Monday May 28, 2012: Open: Closed: No Trash Pickup on Memorial Day in Stoughton On Monday, May 28, there will be no curbside trash collection in observance of Memorial Day. Trash collection for Memorial Day will be scheduled for Tuesday, May 29, in addition to the regular Tuesday collection. This is standard procedure for any holiday. Residents are reminded to have their trash out at 7 a.m. on the day of their scheduled collection. MBTA The MBTA will operate on a Sunday schedule. Stoughton's Memorial Day parade begins at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 28. A collation and two Memorial Square dedications will take place in the afternoon.

The Memorial Day parade starts at 9 a.m. on May 28 at the Stoughton DPW at 950 Central St., making stops at the Holy Sepulcher Cemetery on Central St.; the Pearl St. Cemetery; Town Hall; Faxon Park; and the Evergreen Cemetery on Washington St. near Town Spa. The parade route is a little more than 2 miles. MEMORIAL DAY ACTIVITIES PLANNED: One of the great things about living in the Town of Stoughton is the great community events here. One of the best, and most patriotic, is the Memorial Day Weekend festivities here. Stoughton's Veteran's Agent Mike Pazyra works a LONG weekend, with re-flagging of veteran's graves, and a wonderful parade, and collation at the VFW. Then, memorial squares are dedicated to late soldiers from our town. They are all moving ceremonies.
