Stoughton Fire Chief Mark Dolloff shares the story of how he helped save a man in cardiac arrest this past Friday afternoon while on vacation in St. Thomas.
Stoughton Fire Chief Mark Dolloff’s recent vacation in St. Thomas ended in nothing less than heroism when he saved the life of a fellow vacationer in cardiac arrest this past Friday afternoon. Dolloff and his wife, Teresa, were on vacation with three other couples. They went back to the hotel for lunch, but the Dolloffs decided to stay on the beach. “I was in the right place at the right time”, said Dolloff, who returned Saturday evening from the vacation. It was Friday, around 1 p.m. while Dolloff and his wife, Teresa, sat on Frenchman’s Cove Beach that Dolloff noticed commotion in the water. “I heard someone yell, “I can’t pull him in”...[that’s when] I threw my stuff down and ran to the water,” he recalls. Dolloff said his wife, who …

Stoughton Fire Chief Mark Dolloff announced that Greg Goldberg is now the Acting Deputy Fire Chief.
Stoughton Fire Chief Mark Dolloff announced that Acting Captain Greg Goldberg has been appointed to serve as the department's Acting Deputy Chief. Goldberg replaces former Acting Deputy Chief Scott Breen, who requested to return to his role as a Captain, Dolloff said. Dolloff said Breen "did an outstanding job" as Acting Deputy Chief. "It's sad to see him leave the position," Dolloff said. "[He was] more than capable." But in Goldberg, Dolloff found a "more than capable" replacement. The Chief credited Goldberg, a 17-year veteran of the SFD, for his vast knowledge of fire prevention law and code enforcement. Goldberg had previously served as a Lieutenant of fire prevention. "He represents the department well," Dolloff said. Goldberg is …

The Raise the Flag project secured the funds needed to purchase a 30’ x 60’ American Flag for the Town of Stoughton. The event flag was presented to Fire Chief Mark Dolloff on March 20.
It was shortly after Veterans' Day that Stoughton first grader Isabella Iacobucci and her mom, Patch writer Christine Iacobucci, launched the "Raise the Flag" campaign, a fundraising project to help purchase a 30’ x 60’ American Flag for the Town of Stoughton. The goal was to be able to purchase the flag in time for the 2012 Memorial Day parade. Thanks to the hard work of Bella and Christine and the generosity of the Stoughton community, mission accomplished. At the end of February, Christine announced that "Raise the Flag" had secured the funding needed for the large event flag. And, at the March 20 Board of Selectmen's meeting, the Iacobucci family presented the flag, folded and tied with a large red ribbon, to Fire Chief Mark Dolloff…

BUILDING MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR IS "VERY BUSY": Bob Grover, who was Stoughton's Building Inspector decades ago, and most recently served as Stoughton's Interim Building Inspector, was given the new position of Building Maintenance Supervisor by Town Manager Francis T. Crimmins Jr. Grover, who shares an office with the SMAC audio and video equipment on the third floor of Town Hall, has been—as Crimmins would say—"Very Busy." LIONS ALL FIRED UP: The Stoughton Lions Club met Wednesday night, February 8, at Chinatown Restaurant. They welcomed special guest, Fire Chief Mark Dolloff (pictured in our Gallery with King Lion Robert Mullen.) Mullen tells About Town, "Chief Dolloff is an excellent speaker. He showed us the progression of thermal imaging technology. The newest are hand-held cameras that are only $4,000 each. These are used to find people in fires." Two of the "older models," to which the Lions contributed towards, are now in use by the Fire Department. Dolloff said that those cameras—which originally cost up to $20,000 each, have been replaced by a better technology, at lower cost, and are now much smaller and easier to use. The Lions Club also gave …

The well-attended ceremony was held Thursday evening at the Town Hall.
At home, his family used to call him “Deputy Dog.” Now, Mark Dolloff goes by “el jefe,” Spanish for “the chief” or “the boss.” Dolloff was sworn in as Stoughton’s Fire Chief Thursday evening in a ceremony held in the Great Hall of the Town Hall. After serving as Deputy Fire Chief of the Stoughton Fire Department for six years, Dolloff was named interim fire chief in April of 2011 when former chief David Jardin retired. Dolloff became the permanent chief of the department in October. Town Clerk Cheryl Mooney administered Dolloff’s sworn oath. Dolloff’s father, Lawrence, pinned his son with the chief’s badge. Lawrence retired as a Deputy Chief with the SFD in 1988. Mark Dolloff, a 1976 graduate of Stoughton High, started as an EMT in 1982 …
