School officials have narrowed an applicant pool of around 40 to six and will be conducting interviews with these six SHS principal candidates this week.
By the third week of March, Stoughton Public Schools officials will have a “very good idea of who the next high school principal will be,” Deputy Superintendent of Schools Jonathan Ford said at a February 28 School Committee meeting. With O’Donnell Middle School principal Wayne Hester retiring at end of this school year and Stoughton High principal Matthew Colantonio becoming principal at the OMS next school year, there is a vacancy in the top post at SHS. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Marguerite Rizzi said the school department received about 40 applications for SHS principal. The 40 applicants were narrowed down to a field of seven candidates. RIZZI CONTRACT REAFFIRMED: The Stoughton School Committee responded to the finding of the State's Attorney General's Office that the September 2010 executive session meeting where Dr. Rizzi was given a contract extension was illegal. So, at the November 22, 2011 Stoughton School Committee meeting, the School Committee--this time in a legal open session--reaffirmed the four year contract extention (until 2016) for Superintendent of Schools Dr. Marguerite Rizzi, by a 3-0 vote, with two abstentions. Tom Colburn made the motion, and it was seconded by Deborah Sovinee. Chair Joyce Husseini joined them in the vote. Thanks for your reply Jeffrey. At $140K, her salary was below average, but she was also new to the position. If the SC felt she deserved the raise based solely on merit then I feel much better about it. I personally feel good administrators are few and far between and I feel it prudent to retain talent with competitive compensation.
