Nine Stoughton Residents to Take Part in 24th Annual Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk

The 24th annual Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk, which helps to support lifesaving adult and pediatric patient care and cancer research at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, takes place September 9. The registration period is still open.

The following information is from a Boston Marathon  Jimmy Fund Walk press release: On September 9, nine residents from Stoughton will walk up to 26.2 miles along the historic route of the Boston Marathon in the 24th annual Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk presented by Hyundai. They will be among the 9,000 walkers expected to participate with the collective goal of raising more than $7.5 million to support lifesaving adult and pediatric patient care and cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Stoughton walkers include: Sandra Clark-Martin; Mary Courtney; Erin Gomes; Melissa Jenne; Ellen Kaufman; Joel Kravetz; Deborah Levine; Mark Levine; and Trudy Miller. Stoughton Cancer Survivor to Take Part in Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk Next Month

Stoughton resident Ellen Kaufman, a cancer survivor, will be taking part in September's Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk, walking for her daughter Erica Ebner, who was recently diagnosed with stage four Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

The following is a press release: Ellen Kaufman, 53, of Stoughton, is a cancer survivor who will walk 26.2 miles in the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk not only as a cancer survivor, but for the four generations of women within her family who have all battled cancer.   “It is such a devastating disease,” says Kaufman. “I have watched it hit my family over and over again.” In the 1960s, Kaufman’s grandmother, Nettie Collier, passed away from leukemia. “They just didn’t have the advances in medicine then that they do now,” says Kaufman. “I barely remember them treating her.” In 1995, her mother, Bernice Kaufman, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She had surgery, but opted out of further treatment and passed away 11 months after being …

14 Stoughton Riders Taking Part in Pan-Mass Challenge This Weekend

The 33rd Annual Pan-Massachusetts Challenge will take place August 4-5. This year, 14 Stoughton riders are taking part.

The following is adapted from a press release from the Pan-Massachusetts Challenge: This Saturday and Sunday, August 4 and 5, 14 residents from Stoughton will ride in the 33rd annual Pan-Massachusetts Challenge (PMC), the nation’s pioneer charity bike-a-thon that raises more money than any other athletic fundraising event in the country. They will be among 5,500 cyclists who will ride with the collective goal of raising $36 million to support lifesaving adult and pediatric cancer care and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through its Jimmy Fund. PMC riders range in age from 13 to 88. Some are seasoned tri-athletes while others are "weekend warriors" having trained for this event alone. The PMC has 11 routes ranging from 25 to 190 …

Stoughton's Burger King Supporting Pediatric Cancer Research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute

More than 600 Burger King restaurants are participating in "A Chance for Kids" program, including the Stoughton location on Park St. This is the 13th consecutive year Burger King is taking part.

The following is a press release from Burger King/The Jimmy Fund: Burger King guests can help fight childhood cancers from May 28 through July 1 by donating $1 to the Jimmy Fund through the A Chance for Kids program at participating Burger King restaurants in six New England states. With each contribution, restaurant guests will receive a promotion card guaranteed to be a winner, with prizes ranging from all-inclusive resort vacations and airline tickets, to theme park admissions and Burger King food. The Stoughton Burger King, located on the Stoughton/Brockton line at 1333 Park St., is participating in the program. The 32nd Annual Pan-Massachusetts Challenge will take place August 6-7. This year, 13 Stoughton riders are taking part.

This Saturday and Sunday, August 6 and 7, 13 residents from Stoughton will ride in the 32nd annual Pan-Massachusetts Challenge (PMC), the nation’s pioneer charity bike-a-thon that raises more money than any other athletic fundraising event in the country. They will be among 5,000 cyclists who will ride with the collective goal of raising $34 million to support lifesaving adult and pediatric cancer care and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through its Jimmy Fund. The PMC has 11 routes ranging from 25 to 190 miles in distance. Some of the routes will be passing through nearby towns like Easton, Sharon, Foxboro and Mansfield.
