NO AMBASSADOR FOR YOU!  Last week, About Town reported the news that Ahavath Torah Congregation in Stoughton was hosting Dore Gold, former Ambassador to the United Nations for Israel, at the end of January. But Ambassador Gold had to ultimately end up declining the invite because of a scheduling conflict. On December 30, we received an enthusiastic email from the Temple's Rabbi, Jonathan Hausman, confirming Gold's appearance on January 28. Hausman said tickets were $125 and $250 and that it was sponsored by The Irwin M. and H. Ethel Hausman Memorial Free Speech Speakers’ Series.  It went on to say that SecureAmericaNow.org would receive funds raised, to help underwrite the cost of the Ambassador’s appearance. Hausman wrote that, "This is a…

Editor's Note: The following is a guest column written by Mark Kushinsky and edited by Faye Kushinsky. Mark Snyder will return with another edition of About Town on Friday. RETIRED ISRAELI AMBASSADOR VISITS STOUGHTON: Ambassador Yoram Ettinger gave an impassioned talk titled “The US-Iran-Israel Triangle” Friday evening, Oct. 12, at an open gathering hosted by Ahavath Torah Congregation in Stoughton. Ettinger opened the talk with a reference to the opening lines of Genesis, which was read recently on Shabbat (Saturday), and how it can also be interpreted as a covenant of Fire and how in Hebrew The United States is translated as “the lands of the covenant.” In a subsequent talk the Ambassador went on to explain that the word “federal” is …

JOE DAWE HONORED: Stoughton High School Athletic Director Ryan Donahue wanted to honor longtime Stoughton High football public address announcer Joseph Dawe, Jr. last Friday night, Sept. 28, at halftime of the Stoughton High-Mansfield High football game. Dawe was joined on field by the Stoughton High cheerleaders during a brief ceremony. As the public address announcer that night, I read a prepared statement that Donahue received from Joe’s son, Joseph Dawe III. This is what I read: Joe Dawe began his career in the Stoughton Public Schools in 1962 as a 6th grade teacher and later as the assistant principal at the Jones Elementary School.  During this time, Joe was a founding father of the Stoughton Public School's bilingual education …

IRAN SO FAR AWAY: Dr. Mark Durie, spoke Thursday night about "A Perspective on Islam, Christians, and Israel" at Ahavath Torah Congregation in Stoughton. The evening focused on the view of Christians, Jews and Israel through Islam's foundational texts and how that should shape one's understanding on the future of negotiations between Israel and her neighbors, as well as sister democracies. He talked about what happens when non-Muslims live under Muslim rule. They have traditionally been presented with three choices: conversion to Islam, death, or the subservient status known as dhimmitude. His latest book sheds light on that little-understood condition and its contemporary relevance. The Third Choice: Islam, Dhimmitude and Freedom by Durie…
