A recap of Thanksgiving football action in the Hockomock League.
If anything, Thanksgiving once again proved how exciting and unpredictable the Hockomock League can be. The League's two playoff teams both lost; Stoughton and Mansfield's long Thanksgiving win streaks were snapped, while Oliver Ames extended its streak; the King Philip/Franklin and Stoughton/Canton games came down to the wire, with the KP/Franklin game being decided in the final seconds, and with Stoughton/Canton being decided in overtime, and Foxborough orchestrated a second-half comeback vs. Mansfield. The other games were blowouts. Thanksgiving marked the end of the season for nine of the teams in the league, but Mansfield (Division 2) and Sharon (Division 3) will head to the postseason, playing in a semifinal game Tuesday night, …

Stoughton lost to Canton on Thanksgiving for the first time since 2004, with the Bulldogs earning a shocking victory in overtime.
For the first time since 2004, the Canton High football team beat Stoughton on Thanksgiving, with the Bulldogs shocking the heavily-favored Black Knights, 28-26, Thursday in Stoughton. And for the first time in the 87-year history of the Thanksgiving rivalry, the game was decided in overtime. After Frankie Morris got Stoughton on the board first in overtime with a two-yard touchdown run, giving the Black Knights a 26-20 lead after the two point conversion attempt was fumbled, Canton responded with a five-yard touchdown run by Shane Nordgren to tie the game. Canton then won on Dexter Green's successful two-point conversion run. The Bulldog players stormed the field as Stoughton players, dejected, walked towards their sideline - a successful…

The Stoughton High Football team is 9-1, but is eliminated from postseason contention heading into the final game of the season. None of that matters right now, however, as the team is focused on beating rival Canton in the annual Thanksgiving showdown.
Down, but not out. A cliche used in sports to describe a situation when a there is a slight, albeit improbable chance of pulling off a given task. Out, but not down might be a good way to describe the Stoughton High football team's current situation, however, heading into its annual Thanksgiving Day showdown with rival Canton Thursday at 10 a.m. at Stoughton High. Stoughton is eliminated from postseason contention, despite a 9-1 record, but is still fired up to play Canton on Thanksgiving. Stoughton will be going for its eighth-straight Thanksgiving win, a win streak which dates back to 2005. It's a series Stoughton has dominated since 1995, winning 15 of the last 17 matchups. A win will also give Stoughton a 10-1 record, which would be …

The Black Knights enter Thanksgiving 9-1, going for a school-record 10th regular season win, while also looking to extend a current 7-game Thanksgiving win streak over Canton (2-6 this season). The game is Thursday, Nov. 22 at 10 a.m. at Stoughton High.
With the Stoughton High football team's 25-21 win against Bridgewater-Raynham Nov. 9 on the road in the books, Stoughton Patch will look at some key factors contributing to the win and look ahead to this Thursday's home contest against visiting Canton (2-6, 1-2 Davenport Division) at 10 a.m. on Thanksgiving. Stoughton is 9-1 (2-1 Davenport) heading into the game. 1. Stoughton Dominance on Thanksgiving - Coming into yet another Thanksgiving clash between Stoughton and Canton, the Knights lead the all-time series 43-39-4, a series that dates back to 1926. A Stoughton win this turkey day would match Stoughton's longest win-streak in the series at 8 games (done once before from 1995-2002). In 15 of the the last 17 Thanksgiving matchups, the …

Inside the numbers: A look at the series history between the two Thanksgiving rivals (statistics from the Hockomock League football website).
This upcoming Thursday’s Thanksgiving morning game between Stoughton and Canton marks the 87th consecutive time the two schools have gone head to head on the holiday. The rivalry dates back to 1926. Stoughton will play host to this year’s game (Thursday, Nov. 22, 10 a.m. at Stoughton High). Stoughton holds a 43-39-4 edge in the all-time series, aided by having won the past seven Thanksgiving games, dating back to 2005, including last year's 27-7 victory in Canton. The Black Knights will look to make it eight in a row this year. While Stoughton hasn’t always dominated the series - Canton won all but one game between 1976-1991 - the Black Knights have taken control of the series under head coach Greg Burke. Since 1995, Stoughton has lost …

A recap of Week 10 football action in the Hockomock League.
Turns out Thanksgiving football in the Hockomock League will just be for pride and bragging rights this year - both of the league's playoff berths were sewn up by the end of week 10. Mansfield (7-3), a perennial playoff threat, clinched the Hockomock League's Kelly-Rex (large schools) Division with a 28-21 win against visiting Franklin this past Saturday evening. Mansfield improved to 4-1 in the division, assuring the Hornets of at least a tie with King Philip, who is 3-1 heading into Thanksgiving. But, Mansfield has the head-to-head tiebreak, beating KP 46-33 on Oct. 20. And, Sharon (8-2), just two years removed from a 1-9-1 season, made history Saturday afternoon, clinching the Hockomock League's Davenport (small schools) Division with a…

This Friday night, the 8-1 Black Knights travel to Bridgewater-Raynham, still considered one of the best in the state, despite a 5-4 record. Meanwhile, Foxborough and Sharon play Saturday in a game that could extend or end Stoughton's playoff hopes.
With the Stoughton High football team's 26-8 win against Attleboro last Friday at home, Stoughton Patch will look at some key factors contributing to the win and look ahead to this Friday's road contest against Bridgewater-Raynham (5-4) at 7 p.m. Stoughton is 8-1 heading into the game. 1. Dan Eckler, Touchdown Machine - Quarterback Dan Eckler has come up huge for Stoughton the last two games, as the Knights have started to pull away from a run-heavy offense into a more balanced attack. The team has been counting on Eckler to pass a lot more and he is delivering for the team. Last Friday against Attleboro, Eckler went 8 for 12 logging 200 yards and 3 touchdowns, all of which were to different receivers. He has six touchdowns (five passing, …

A recap of Week 9 football action in the Hockomock League.
There was plenty of excitement this past Friday, week 9, in the Hockomock League, but just one of the games had an impact on the playoff race - the Kelly-Rex Division matchup between Taunton and Mansfield (a 35-14 win by Mansfield). However, week 10 on the Hockomock gridiron features key division showdowns between Sharon and Foxborough in the Davenport and King Philip/North Attleboro and Franklin/Mansfield in the Kelly-Rex. KP, NA, Franklin and Mansfield all have just one division loss, so the winner of those two games will have the upper hand going into the final game of the regular season on Thanksgiving. If Sharon beats Foxborough, the Eagles clinch the Davenport, but if Foxborough wins, Sharon, Foxborough and Stoughton will all be …
