Monday, March 12 marked the 100th birthday of the Girl Scouts organization. Here in Stoughton Girl Scouts held a special birthday party.
Monday, March 12 was officially Girl Scout Day in Stoughton in honor of the organization’s 100th anniversary. Sixth grader Victoria Tucker, a cadette with Troop 80378 in Stoughton, appeared before the Board of Selectmen in January to ask the Board to recognize the Girl Scout centennial. The Board unanimously declared March 12 as Girl Scout Day in Stoughton. Monday evening Stoughton Girl Scouts got together at the VFW building in town and celebrated this milestone birthday. At 7:12 p.m. the Girl Scouts made a Friendship Circle and all recited the Girl Scout Promise and Law. Sixth grader Victoria Tucker, a cadette with Troop 80378 in Stoughton, appeared before the Board of Selectmen in January to ask the Board to recognize the Girl Scout centennial. The Board unanimously declared March 12 as Girl Scout Day in Stoughton. Tucker made a return appearance before the Board on February 28 to receive an official proclamation from the Town of Stoughton. She was joined by seven fellow Girl Scouts to lead the Pledge of Allegiance at the February 28 meeting. Sixth grader Victoria Tucker of Troop 80378 asked selectmen to declare a day for Girl Scouts in honor of the organization’s 100th anniversary.
March 12 has been declared Girl Scout Day in Stoughton after the Board of Selectmen unanimously approved sixth grader Victoria Tucker’s request at their January 17 meeting. Tucker is a member of Troop 80378 in Stoughton. She asked selectmen to declare a day for Girl Scouts in honor of the organization’s 100th anniversary. The Board was happy to oblige and will be drafting an official proclamation to mark the day. “Girl Scouts aims to empower girls and to help teach values such as courage, confidence and character,” Tucker told selectmen. “We learn these [values] through our badge program which teaches us life skills in a fun way,” she continued.
