CLERGY GET TRAINING ON DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND ABUSE PREVENTION: More than 60 clergy members from across Norfolk County, including Rev. Jean Lenk from the First Congregational Church in Stoughton, Rev. Stanley Schultz from Faith Baptist Church in Stoughton and Rabbi Joseph Meszler of Temple Sinai in Sharon, attended a training session hosted by Norfolk County District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey last week to learn how best to recognize even subtle signs of domestic violence, child abuse and elder abuse – and how to tap into the right resources when a member of their congregations needs help. “Responsible citizens and community leaders are often the best partners law enforcement can have,” District Attorney Morrissey said after the half-day…

SHS GRAD RAISING FUNDS FOR GIRLS' CHARITY:  Jenna Policow, a 2010 graduate of Stoughton High School, is a junior at Drexel University in Philadelphia. She will be running in the Philadelphia Half Marathon this weekend, raising funds for Girls on the Run. Girls on the Run, according to its website, is a "non-profit prevention program that uses the power of running to help prepare preteen and early teen girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. The program focuses on building self-esteem and improving emotional and physical health, recognizing that every girl is special, that every girl is strong, that every girl is a winner." Stoughton Obituaries (October 28)

The following are obituaries for Stoughton residents or those with Stoughton ties for the week of October 21 - October 27.

Paul J. Roach Paul J. Roach, 88, the retired Fire Chief of the Town of Stoughton, died peacefully Tuesday, October 23, 2012, at the Copley at Stoughton Nursing Home in Stoughton, after a period of failing health. He was the husband of 66 years of Madeline T. (Hogan) Roach. Born and raised in Stoughton, he was a graduate of St. Mary's School and Boston College High School. He was a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps and a Veteran of World War II. Chief Roach worked for the Stoughton Fire Department from 1953 until his retirement in 1988. He was appointed Fire Chief in 1961 and held that position until his retirement. He was a member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs, where he was Past President of the New England …

IT'S FRIGHTENING...THE 7-1-5 HAUNTED HOUSE: Jason and Mike Mutascio LOVE the theater, and once a year they DO theater right at their Stoughton home in the form of a Haunted House. For 25 years, the Mutascio family-run Haunted House was open only to friends and relatives. Five years ago, for the first time, the doors to this Haunted House were open to the public in a fundraising effort in support of the community. Since then, the 7-1-5 Haunted House has welcomed the public in every Halloween season for a night of scares. During the 2010 Halloween season, the 7-1-5 won an award for "Best Haunted House" in the area. It's located at 715 Central St. at the corner of Central St. and Pleasant St.   With over 50 live actors, over 35 life size …

LETTER: Stoughton Team Leads Fundraising Efforts at South Shore CROP Hunger Walk

The South Shore CROP Hunger Walk raised more than $12,000. The walking team from First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ in Stoughton raised the most funds by a single team.

The following was submitted to Stoughton Patch: The South Shore CROP Hunger Walk was a huge success this past weekend, Sunday, October 14. More than $12,000 was contributed by our neighbors and friends to support the hunger-fighting efforts of Church World Service, both here at home and around the world.  Our local Mainspring House in Brockton will receive approximately $3,000 to aid fellow South Shore residents in need, and some $8,000 will make possible the global work of Church World Service.  Just think, the funds raised here in Brockton and in CROP Hunger Walks across the U.S. will make a difference in the lives of people around the world - from supplying clean water to thirsty villages in Kenya, to aiding dairy farmers in Bosnia, to …
