Remembering Fallen Stoughton Firefighter Victor Melendy

January 28, 2013 marks the 18th anniversary of when Stoughton firefighter Victor Melendy died in the line of duty at a Rose street fire in 1995.

Remembering Victor Melendy (The following article by Mark Snyder is an updated version of an article which first ran on Stoughton Patch Jan. 28, 2011) On January 28, 1995, Stoughton lost Firefighter Victor C. Melendy in a deadly Saturday morning blaze on Rose Street. He was 47 years old.  Melendy was a 23-year veteran of the Stoughton Fire Department, who was searching for people trapped inside a burning house when the blaze suddenly accelerated, fire officials said at the time. He was the second Stoughton firefighter killed in the line of duty in the department's 146-year history. The first was Edward J.
