David Wade, a 17-year-old senior at Stoughton High and lineman on the SHS football team, died after being shot on Saturday, Sept. 29. The Black Knights capped an emotional week with a 20-0 win over Foxborough High School Friday night in Stoughton.
As Stoughton High football senior captains Mike Connelly, Adam Leonard, Andrew Kelly and Aaron Mack made their way to midfield for the coin toss prior to the start of Friday's home game against Foxborough, Leonard and Kelly held a black #56 jersey, belonging to classmate David Wade, a lineman on the team who tragically died last Saturday. Coach Greg Burke carried Wade's helmet on his way out from the locker room. Wade's jersey and helmet were then placed on the Stoughton bench. A teary-eyed Burke held this same jersey and helmet during his postgame interview following Stoughton's 20-0 win, a victory the team dedicated to Wade and his family. "You can't get any tougher than this week when you lose a family member, a senior, a leader, a …

A TERRIBLE TRAGEDY: The Stoughton Community is a small one. All of us know the Wade family, as neighbors and friends. My son was a friend many years ago of Michael's, and my daughter a friend of David's, and a former teammate of his on the cheerleading squad. I know that everyone feels the pain of the Wade family, from the accidental shooting that resulted in David's death last Saturday, Sept. 29. We grieve as one. David Wade, 17, a senior at Stoughton High, was a past member of the SHS cheerleading squad, and for the past two seasons was a member of the Stoughton High football team, wearing No. 56 this year and playing on the line. JOE DAWE HONORED: Stoughton High School Athletic Director Ryan Donahue wanted to honor longtime Stoughton High football public address announcer Joseph Dawe, Jr. last Friday night, Sept. 28, at halftime of the Stoughton High-Mansfield High football game. Dawe was joined on field by the Stoughton High cheerleaders during a brief ceremony. As the public address announcer that night, I read a prepared statement that Donahue received from Joe’s son, Joseph Dawe III. This is what I read: Joe Dawe began his career in the Stoughton Public Schools in 1962 as a 6th grade teacher and later as the assistant principal at the Jones Elementary School. During this time, Joe was a founding father of the Stoughton Public School's bilingual education …
