Christine Woodard shares her story of coming to Canton and running Cassie's Corner Store.
In the age of Mobil on the Run and Hess Expresses, Stoughton's Christine Woodard is continuing to thrive in Canton at Cassie’s Corner Store. “I had a friend in high school who lived down the street and I always used to come here,” she said. Woodard bought the property for Cassie’s Corner Store, located at the corner of Chapman and Washington Streets in Canton, 20 years ago when the it was vacant, and she’s built a good local business out of it. “The store had closed, and in October 1992, it was something I figured I’d try,” she said. “I had just graduated college and I had managed a store previously in Randolph through college. Stoughton defeated Canton 9-3 Monday afternoon to improve to 12-6 on the season.
After scoring 28 runs in their previous two games combined, the Stoughton High baseball team turned in another strong offensive performance Monday afternoon, traveling to Canton and coming away with a 9-3 victory. Stoughton (12-6), having already clinched a playoff berth, is playing to get as high a seed possible in the MIAA State Tournament. The win is Stoughton's sixth win in a row, and it ends Stoughton's Hockomock schedule at 10-6 in the League. Canton is now 3-15. Sean Jackman, 24, of Stoughton, the driver in Saturday's fatal car crash in Canton, was arraigned Monday on multiple charges, including motor vehicle homicide and drunk driving. Jackman was arraigned at Boston Medical Center, where he remains hospitalized following the single car crash, which killed the lone passenger in the vehicle, Evan Bard, a junior at Curry College. At the request of Assistant District Attorney Melissa Brooks, Jackman was held on $500,000 cash bail, according to a release from the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office. A Stoughton man, who police say was driving the car involved in an early Saturday morning crash on Bolivar Street in Canton that killed a Curry College student, is facing several charges, including motor vehicle homicide, wrote Norfolk County District Attorney's Office spokesman David Traub in a Sunday afternoon email to the media. Sean Jackman, 24, has also been charged with operating under the influence, speeding and marked lanes violations, Traub wrote. Longtime Stoughton resident Kathleen (Grady) Carolan passed away April 27 at the age of 104. She was a former teacher at St. John's School in Canton.

The following is from the Farley Funeral Home website: Kathleen G. (Grady) Carolan, 104, died peacefully at the Copley at Stoughton on Saturday, April 27. She was the wife of the late Vincent H. Carolan. Born in Boston and raised in West Roxbury, she was a graduate of Notre Dame Academy, Class of 1928 in Boston and Trinity College, Class of 1932 in Washington, DC. She was a resident of Stoughton since 1949. Born in 1909, She turned 104 earlier this month, on April 11. Mrs. Carolan was the first permanent lay teacher at St. John's School in Canton. She taught at St. John's for 20 years before retiring 34 years ago. She was a member of the Stoughton Women's Club and Trinity Alumni Association. Mrs. Carolan is survived by her children, …

The Friday afternoon incident turned out to be a false alarm.
A suspicious package found Friday afternoon at Cobbs Corner in Canton turns out to be a gym bag that was left behind, according to Canton Police. The bomb squad was called in, according to Officer Ted Lehan of the Canton Police, to investigate a package found in the vicinity of Rocky's Ace Hardware in the Canton portion of the shopping plaza, right on the Stoughton line. The bomb squad cleared the bag and the situation was deemed to be under control, according to scanner reports. This incident in Cobbs Corner appears to just be a false alarm. The arrest came during a State Police run sobriety checkpoint Friday on Neponset St. in Canton.
A Stoughton woman was arrested Friday in Canton for allegedly driving drunk, according to a press release from the Massachusetts State Police. The State Police conducted a sobriety checkpoint on Neponset Street in Canton April 5, resulting in the arrest of six people for OUI alcohol and drugs with two criminal summons, according to the release. State Police also issued 88 civil motor vehicle citations. Mia Cancel, 46, of Stoughton, was charged with OUI liquor. Those arrested during the sobriety checkpoint in Canton were expected to appear in Stoughton District Court on Monday, according to the release. State Police also conducted a sobriety checkpoint on Route 3A in Lowell on April 6, resulting in the arrest of 12 people for OUI.
