CHRISTMAS PARADE ATTRACTS LARGE CROWD:  Sunday, December 9, the Annual Stoughton Christmas Parade, sponsored by the Community Events Committee, drew a large gathering in Stoughton Square.  Over 100 hundred people got involved in a trivia game before the parade, an dozens won gift certificates to Papa John's Pizza, The Last Shot, and games provided by PMPNetwork, Inc.  That was the fun BEFORE the parade. At 2 p.m., the first blaring of the sirens could be heard, and with the Stoughton Police Department's motorcycles, cruisers, SUV's, followed by Engine 4 and Ladder Truck 2 from the Stoughton Fire Department, the parade took off.  It started at Stoughton High, went down Pearl Street, and turned onto Washington Street, where I was calling the…

"Five Things you Need to Know This Weekend" is the weekend version of the Patch column "Five Things You Need to Know Today."  The weekend edition provides readers with essential information for both Saturday and Sunday. 1. Stoughton’s Annual Christmas Parade The Annual Stoughton Christmas Parade is Sunday, Dec. 11 at 2 p.m. It starts at the Stoughton High parking lot, proceeds down Pearl St. into the center of town, and ends at Faxon Park, across from the Stoughton Public Library.  About Town's Mark Snyder will be the emcee of the parade again this year. RELIGIOUS MATERIAL DISTRIBUTED IN FIRST GRADE CLASS: Some parents of Gibbons School first graders in one classroom got a bit of a surprise earlier this week. A mom of a girl in one of the classes sent the kids home with "goody bags" in honor of her daughter's birthday. The bag contained a Children's My First Bible, A Jesus fish eraser, and a pencil that had erasers on both ends and was inscribed with the words, "Life without Jesus is like this pencil. No point to it." One parent, who wrote About Town, noted, "I am a Catholic, but I found it offensive. I can only imagine how any non-Christian parents would feel." School Principal Lynne Jardin sent home a letter to parents Thursday, Dec. 8 apologizing for the incident. She wrote, "It has …

Santa Claus is Coming to Town

Over the next week, Santa will be at the YMCA, at Stoughton’s annual Christmas Parade, and on the set of the Community Forum local access program.

Stoughton residents don’t necessarily have to travel to the mall to meet Santa Claus before Christmas. Over the next week, he will be in town at the following events: Breakfast with Santa at the YMCA This Saturday, Dec. 10, from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the Stoughton YMCA auditorium, come and have breakfast with Santa. There will be crafts, stories, music, raffles, and more. Breakfast will be catered by Peppercorns Cafe. The cost is $5 for members and $10 for non-members. Registration is required by Dec. 7. Walk-ins on Saturday morning will be accommodated if space is available.
