Stoughton's Alves, Hockomock Stars Help South Beat North in Shriners Football Classic

Nine Hockomock League players, including Brandon Alves from Stoughton High, took part in the All-Star game that saw the South team beat the North team, 15-12.

Taking part in a yearly tradition, Stoughton High's Brandon Alves, along with eight other players from the Hockomock League and Oliver Ames coach Jim Artz, who was the offensive coordinator, were named to the South All-Stars for the 2012 Shriners All-Star Football Classic Friday night. Raising money for charity, it was also a chance for some of the best players in the state to take part in one last high school game at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro. A close game to the end, the South All-Stars snuck past the North All-Stars, 15-12. Alves to Represent Stoughton High at Shriners Football Classic

Brandon Alves, a recent Stoughton High Class of 2012 graduate, will play for the South All-Star Team at the 34th Shriners Football Classic on Friday, June 15.

A senior captain for the Stoughton High football team, defensive leader manning the interior line, and Hockomock League football All-Star, Brandon Alves will represent the Black Knights this Friday, June 15 at the 34th Shriners Football Classic. The Shriners All-Star game, played at Gillette Stadium, home of the New England Patriots, features 100 top high school football players from Eastern Massachusetts. Alves, who graduated on June 7 with the SHS Class of 2012, played both offensive and defensive line for the Black Knights in his senior season and will play on the defensive line for the Shriners squad. Stoughton High’s Jade Paul Medals at Indoor Track All-State Championship

Jade Paul came in 6th in the 600-meter event. On the boys’ side, Brandon Alves competed in the shot put.

At the 2011 MIAA Indoor Track All-State championships, Stoughton High’s Jade Paul set a personal best in the 600-meter event, finishing in 1:36.06, a new school record. This year Paul eclipsed that mark, finishing the 2012 All-State 600-meter race in 1:36.01, just off her new personal best and school record time of 1:35.90, set at the Division 2 MIAA Indoor Track & Field Championships on February 16. Paul’s time of 1:36.01 at Sunday’s All-State meet, held at the Reggie Lewis Center, was tops in her heat and was good for sixth overall. Up next for Paul is the New England Indoor Track Championship meet, held Friday, March 2 at the Reggie Lewis Center. Alves, Green Lead Stoughton High Boys at Division 2 Indoor Track Championship

Brandon Alves finished seventh in the shot put event, while Nick Green finished 10th in the 2-mile at the Division 2 MIAA Indoor Track & Field Championships on February 16.

Stoughton High's Brandon Alves improved his distance in the shot put by more than four feet from the Hockomock League Championships to last Thursday’s Division 2 MIAA Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Reggie Lewis Center.   As a result, Alves finished seventh in all of Division 2, and qualified for the All-State meet on February 26, coach Harvey Blonder said.   Alves’ distance of 47’9” at the Division 2 championships was the second best output of his career. Alves finished fifth at the Hockomock Championship with a distance of 43’7”.   Nick Green also turned in his second best time in the 2-mile event, finishing in 10:03, good for 10th place at the Division 2 championships.   Blonder said Green was making an “attempt to break the …
