Capt. Robert O'Donnell of the Stoughton Fire Department was given the award in front of a packed house at Good Samaritan Medical Center Monday night.
A Stoughton Firefighter was given given a “Hero Award” in honor of EMS week Monday night at Good Samaritan Medical Center. Capt. Robert O'Donnell was recognized for his service and quick response during the Boston Marathon bombings. His son, Bobby O'Donnell III, a 2012 Oliver Ames High School graduate, was running in the race and O'Donnell was quick to spring to action as a spectator at the finish line. According to a press release submitted by Good Samaritan, O'Donnell shared vivid pictures, videos and audio tapes from the finish line Monday night. To help support The One Fund Boston, Inc., Copy Inks on Washington St. is selling its own "Boston Strong" bumper stickers for a minimum donation of $1. One hundred percent of the profits will be sent directly to The One Fund Boston, Inc., which has been set up to help those most affected by those tragic events. The first printing of 4” x 6” oval stickers is nearly sold out. Copy Inks has ordered a second printing that will be arriving the week of May 13th along with a smaller 1.5” x 2.5” size. Officials stress there is no threat to the public, details still emerging.
Boston Police announced a major new development in the Boston Marathon bombing case Wednesday morning. According to the department, there are three new suspects in custody. Boston Police tweeted the news just after 11 a.m. Wednesday. There were no further details, though the police said they would offer more information soon. Federal law officials believe three classmates of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev destroyed evidence in Darmouth while the suspected bombing brothers fought police in a gunfight in Watertown. In a complaint filed in federal court Wednesday, special agent Scott Cieplik claims suspect Dias Kadyrbayev and Azamat Tazhayakov destroyed or concealed a laptop and backpack filled with fireworks. Third suspect Robel Phillipos, meanwhile, is being charged with lying to federal officials. After hearing about the Boston Marathon terrorist attacks last month Stoughton native Jessica Ashley Benson, owner of J Ashley Jewelry, knew she wanted to help out in some way. Benson, who graduated from Stoughton High School in 2008, attended the North Bennett Street School in Boston and studied jewelry making and repair before starting her own company selling handcrafted jewelry. “I decided that I wanted to do something proactive after the events occurred. It was a horrible tragedy and I knew that One Fund Boston was set up. So I’ve been doing this personalized jewelry for six months and I thought what better way than to wear your pride,” Benson said. The Stoughton YMCA hosted a well-attended Children's Hospital Boston Blood Drive Thursday afternoon.
In honor of the victims and first responder heroes of the Boston Marathon Bombings, the Stoughton YMCA hosted a Children's Hospital Boston Blood Drive Thursday afternoon. Like the other blood drives held at the Y, it was run by Mary Coulter-Bennett, a Stoughton resident and group fitness coordinator at the Stoughton YMCA. She was at marathon on April 15, watching from the grandstands at the finish line, across the street from where the explosion took place. Her brother, Stoughton resident William Coulter, was running and she was there to support three members of the YMCA staff also running. Sean Collier will be remembered at an MIT memorial service at noon on Wednesday. Collier, who was killed Thursday, was laid to rest on Tuesday morning. Police believe the Boston Marathon bombing suspects shot Collier as he responded to an unrelated robbery. Patch will provide updates throughout the memorial service. The Boston Marathon bombing suspect currently hospitalized admitted to FBI agents that he and his brother detonated the bombs planted near the finish line, the Boston Globe reports. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, made the reported admission on Sunday from his bed at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and had not yet been given a Miranda warning, the Globe reported. A "senior police official" told the Globe that authorities were not concerned about Tsarnaev not being read his Miranda rights, which means any statements he made would not be admissible in court, due to testimony of the Tsarnaev brother's alleged carjacking victim. The boy was laid to rest at a private ceremony Tuesday morning.
Martin Richard, the youngest of the victims killed in the Boston Marathon bombings April 15, has been laid to rest. NECN.com reports parents Denise and Bill Richard had a private burial service and funeral for the boy Tuesday morning, and thanked the public for its support. “The outpouring of love and support over the last week has been tremendous. This has been the most difficult week of our lives and we appreciate that our friends and family have given us space to grieve and heal,” the parents said in a statement on NECN.com. The Richard family, from Dorchester, plan to have a public memorial service in the coming weeks, according to the site.
