Hockomock Football Recap: Thanksgiving Upsets, Comebacks, Blowouts and Nail-Biters

A recap of Thanksgiving football action in the Hockomock League.

If anything, Thanksgiving once again proved how exciting and unpredictable the Hockomock League can be. The League's two playoff teams both lost; Stoughton and Mansfield's long Thanksgiving win streaks were snapped, while Oliver Ames extended its streak; the King Philip/Franklin and Stoughton/Canton games came down to the wire, with the KP/Franklin game being decided in the final seconds, and with Stoughton/Canton being decided in overtime, and Foxborough orchestrated a second-half comeback vs. Mansfield. The other games were blowouts. Thanksgiving marked the end of the season for nine of the teams in the league, but Mansfield (Division 2) and Sharon (Division 3) will head to the postseason, playing in a semifinal game Tuesday night, …

Stoughton High Football Goes Airborne to Down the Attleboro Blue Bombardiers

Stoughton High, led by three passing touchdowns from quarterback Dan Eckler, and solid defensive play, improved to 8-1 with a 26-8 win over Attleboro Friday night in Stoughton.

Photos by Justin Braga. Check out a postgame video interview (posted in the media gallery) with Rob Allen, Mike Connelly, Marcus Middleton, Dan Eckler and Tim Porter. *** A week after four running backs picked up more than 50 yards rushing apiece in a blowout win at Oliver Ames, Attleboro was able to keep the Stoughton running game in check Friday night, but it didn't matter - Black Knight quarterback Dan Eckler turned in his best game of the season as Stoughton rolled to another win, 26-8, at home. The Stoughton High football team is now 8-1 on the season, while Attleboro, once 4-0, is now 4-5. This is Stoughton's first win over Attleboro since the Blue Bombardiers joined the Hockomock League in 2010. Against Attleboro, no Stoughton back …

After Blowout Win at OA, Stoughton High Football Looks to Keep Rolling vs. Attleboro

Stoughton routed rival Oliver Ames 44-21 last Friday, capping a three-game road trip. Now the Knights (7-1) return home to take on Attleboro (4-4), a team that has cooled off after a 4-0 start.

With the Stoughton High football team's 44-21 win at Oliver Ames last Friday on the road, Stoughton Patch will look at some key factors contributing to the win and look ahead to this Friday's home contest against Hockomock League rival Attleboro at 6 p.m. (note the time change). Stoughton is 7-1 heading into this game (2-1 in the Davenport Division) and Attleboro  is 4-4 (0-3 in the Kelly-Rex). 1. Offensive Burst - The second half of the Sharon game in Week 7 and the first half of the OA game in Week 8 was like night and day for the Stoughton offense. Against Sharon the Knights could not seem to find a steady rhythm in the passing or running game, running just 12 plays in three possessions in the second half (minus the final play of the …

Hockomock Football Recap: Combo of Routs, Nail-Biters and Upsets Create Chaotic Playoff Picture

A recap of Week 8 football action in the Hockomock League.

While one of the Hockomock League's divisions has a somewhat clear playoff picture, the other is chaotic and wide-open, of course setting up what should be a thrilling final three weeks of the season. After week 8, Sharon, Stoughton and Foxborough have the most realistic path to a Davenport Division (small schools) title and with it a Division 3 playoff berth. The division title is based on a team's four-game division record at season's end. At 2-0 in division play, Sharon is in the driver's seat and Stoughton and Foxborough, both at 2-1, are right behind.  Sharon has a head to head win over Stoughton and Stoughton has a head to head win over Foxborough. Sharon and Foxborough play Nov. 10. With Mansfield and Franklin both losing in week 8…

Hockomock League Football Recap: Undefeated Teams Fall; New Division Favorites Emerge

A recap of Week 7 football action in the Hockomock League.

Heading into week 7, it was fair to say King Philip and Stoughton, both undefeated, were the favorites in the Hockomock League's Kelly-Rex and Davenport Divisions, respectively. But after a crazy Saturday of Hockomock League football, filled with upsets and shootouts, new favorites have emerged. Canton had a week 7 bye, but all the other teams had division games, which meant all games had direct playoff implications. The division winners from the Davenport and Kelly-Rex advance to the postseason. In the Davenport, Stoughton fell at Sharon, 16-14, after Sean Asnes scored the game-winning touchdown with 11 seconds left. The win put Sharon in the Davenport driver's seat with a perfect 2-0 record. Stoughton is 1-1. Foxborough, meanwhile …

Hockomock League Football Recap: Week 4 Upsets, a Last-Minute Comeback and More

A recap of Week 4 football action in the Hockomock League.

Week 4 Recap Stoughton 25, Mansfield 6 Despite upsetting host Mansfield 8-0 last season, the pundits did not give Stoughton much of a chance in the rematch this year, but the Black Knight players didn't write their team off and came away with a dominating victory against Mansfield Friday in Stoughton. Led by a defense which forced four turnovers and shutdown a potent Mansfield offense and thanks to four rushing touchdowns from fullback Frankie Morris, Stoughton (4-0) jumped out to a 25-0 lead and beat the Hornets (2-2) in a rain-soaked affair. Click here for a full recap. Foxborough 21, North Attleboro 0 Foxborough beat North Attleboro at home Friday night, for its first win in the series between the Hockomock rivals since 2009.
