Last-Second Shot Sinks Stoughton High Boys' Basketball in Opener

The Stoughton High boys' basketball team lost 53-51 at Attleboro Dec. 14 on a last-second shot.

The Stoughton High boys' basketball team was in action Friday night as they dropped their season opener at Attleboro, 53-51, thanks to a Tim Walsh game winning 2-point shot with 1.4 seconds left to go in the game. Walsh took the inbounds pass, and despite tight coverage, made his way near the free throw line and hit a shot from the right elbow. "It was just a phenomenal shot. He had guys draped all over him," Stoughton coach John Gallivan said. "He was moving sideways, his feet were slipping out from under him, and he just hit it." Walsh ended the game with 20 points for Attleboro, with none being bigger than that shot to send Attleboro to 2-0 on the young season after opening the season with a win against Durfee High School. Stoughton High Boys’ Basketball Downs Attleboro

The Black Knights scored a 20-point win at home Friday night over the Blue Bombardiers. Stoughton (11-1) has won five in a row, while Attleboro (6-8) has dropped five straight.

Fueled by 9-0 runs to start both the first and second halves, the Stoughton High boys’ basketball team beat Attleboro 77-57 Friday night in Stoughton. It was Stoughton’s fifth straight win, improving to 11-1 on the season. Attleboro is trending in the opposite direction, with five straight losses, dropping to 6-8. After edging King Philip Tuesday night on the road in a battle of Hockomock League heavyweights, there was no letdown for Stoughton in this game. “It was a big win for us,” Mauro Oliveira said of Friday’s 20-point victory. “We had to prove that we could keep winning after a great win at KP.” Black Knights tri-captain Marcus Middleton keyed the first 9-0 run with five of the nine points.
