GIANT FLAGPOLE MAKES DEBUT! You might have noticed a huge flagpole flying Old Glory at Stoughton's Evergreen Cemetery across from the Town Spa. The new pole stands 70-feet high and sits on the American Legion Post 89 lot at the final resting place of so many Stoughton military men and women. This 70-foot flag pole replaces the old 60-foot pole, which was showing signs of age. This new one is thicker, and more sturdy, in addition to being taller. A spotlight will be installed this week by National Grid so that the flag will be illuminated very soon. Rad Williams, President and Trustee of the Evergreen Cemetery Association, said many people worked on the project that culminated in the installation of the new flagpole and flag on December 1. …

As part of his Eagle Scout project, Stoughton High senior Adam Lurie erected a flag pole at Frederick H. Pye Memorial Park at the intersection of Central and Canton Streets.
Frederick H. Pye Memorial Park at the intersection of Central and Canton Streets in Stoughton has a more patriotic look to it now, thanks to the town's newest Eagle Scout, Adam Lurie. Lurie, a senior at Stoughton High, and member of Boy Scout Troop 516,raised funds to erect a flag pole at the park as part of his Eagle Scout Project. He raised an American Flag, which now flies from the pole, at an unveiling ceremony last Monday afternoon, Nov. 12. A scout since first grade, Lurie said it took about four months of work and fundraising to complete the project. The flag pole is surrounded at its base by a circle of decorative bricks, which are inscribed with messages from residents in town. Lurie sold these personalized bricks as a way to help…

The Raise the Flag project secured the funds needed to purchase a 30’ x 60’ American Flag for the Town of Stoughton. The flag was on display July 3 at Stoughton's pre-July 4th carnival, concert and fireworks.
If you entered Tuesday night's pre-July 4th festivities at the Stoughton High football field and track area near the tennis courts, it was hard not to notice the large American Flag flying from a Stoughton Fire Department ladder track. In fact, the flag was hard to miss from any spot on the track or the adjacent field. The 30' by 60' American flag waving in the light breeze was a repeat of the picturesque patriotic scene the Stoughton Fire Department set up at last year's concert, carnival and fireworks, also held the night before July 4th. Last year's flag was borrowed, however. This year, Stoughton flew its own flag. The American Flag was purchased thanks to the "Raise the Flag" fundraiser spearheaded by Stoughton Patch writer Christine …

The Raise the Flag project secured the funds needed to purchase a 30’ x 60’ American Flag for the Town of Stoughton. The event flag was presented to Fire Chief Mark Dolloff on March 20.
It was shortly after Veterans' Day that Stoughton first grader Isabella Iacobucci and her mom, Patch writer Christine Iacobucci, launched the "Raise the Flag" campaign, a fundraising project to help purchase a 30’ x 60’ American Flag for the Town of Stoughton. The goal was to be able to purchase the flag in time for the 2012 Memorial Day parade. Thanks to the hard work of Bella and Christine and the generosity of the Stoughton community, mission accomplished. At the end of February, Christine announced that "Raise the Flag" had secured the funding needed for the large event flag. And, at the March 20 Board of Selectmen's meeting, the Iacobucci family presented the flag, folded and tied with a large red ribbon, to Fire Chief Mark Dolloff…

A letter of thanks after the “Raise the Flag” project (to help purchase a 30’x50’ American Flag for the Town of Stoughton) surpassed its fundraising goal.
Dear Patch Readers, Thank you for allowing me to take a moment of your time to share just how happy and humbled I am to announce that Stoughton will be able to officially "Raise The Flag!" That's right, thanks to the town's generous support, we did it! We have raised the $2,127.50 needed to purchase Stoughton's own 30' x 50' American flag! There will no longer be a need for us to borrow other towns' event flags once The Eagle Flag Company delivers our flag this Spring. I must admit that when my daughter, Isabella (who at the time was 6 years old) told me she wanted us to get a flag for the town, I thought it was just a pipe-dream. But for those of you who know either Bella or myself, we are determined (and passionate) individuals and …

Stoughton Daisy Scout Troop 65159 recently contributed to a fundraising effort to help purchase a 30’x60’ American Flag for Stoughton, so the town no longer has to borrow one from other towns and can display it at its will at patriotic events.
Thanks to a group of Stoughton Girl Scouts, in addition to dozens of other groups and individuals in town, Stoughton is closer to having its own 30 foot by 60 foot American flag that can be displayed at patriotic events like the Veterans’ Day, Memorial Day or July 4th parades. Stoughton’s Daisy Troop 65159 joined the fundraising efforts to help “Raise the Flag” here in town, making a donation last Friday during their meeting at Trinity Church. “Raise the Flag” was started by Stoughton resident Christine Iacobucci (a Stoughton Patch reporter/columnist) and her daughter, Isabella, a first grader at the Hansen School and a member of Daisy Troop 65159. The goal of the fundraiser is to purchase a large event flag for Stoughton, so the town …

Stoughton’s Gregory Widberg, serving with the Army National Guard in Afghanistan, flew an American Flag in honor of Stoughton High School on the tenth anniversary of 9/11. He is sending the flag from Afghanistan to SHS.
A Stoughton father, stationed in Camp Phoenix in Kabul, Afghanistan with the Army National Guard, is sending a special gift to Stoughton High School. Gregory Widberg, a husband and father of four, flew an American flag over Camp Phoenix in honor of Stoughton High on the tenth anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks. In an email sent to SHS principal Matt Colantonio, Widberg said he will be boxing the flag and sending it to the high school, along with an accompanying certificate signed by Widberg, a Command Sergeant Major, and the Garrison Commander. Widberg said he hoped the school would display the flag with the certificate or fly it. Colantonio shared the email with SHS staff and with Superintendent of Schools Dr. Marguerite …
