The annual event raises awareness around the harms of tobacco use and encourages users to quit, for at least one day, with the hope that they will plan to quit for good. Quitting smoking improves your health, no matter how long you have smoked. Quitting tobacco can be hard, but there are ways to make it easier. The SHS volleyball team had its annual "Dig for the Cure" fundraising match with Sharon Friday night in Stoughton, with the Black Knights raising more than $4,000 for the American Cancer society and beating Sharon to earn a postseason berth.
Before the Stoughton High volleyball team even stepped on to the court Friday night the Black Knights were already winners, having secured more than $4,000 in donations for the American Cancer Society through fundraising efforts. But, on the court, the Black Knights were winners too, sweeping Sharon 25-16, 25-19, 25-17, picking up their ninth win of the season, and with it clinching a berth in the postseason state tournament for the second consecutive season and for just the second time in the program's five year history. Stoughton is now 9-4 on the season. In the win over Sharon, Emma Zuk had 19 assists, 8 digs, and 11 service points; Jalen Joseph had 19 service points and 5 aces; Kayla Motley had 9 kills and 6 blocks; and Nicole Daniels …

The SHS volleyball team recently led a 5K fundraising walk for the American Cancer Society and will continue its charitable efforts with a "Dig for the Cure" fundraising match Oct. 12 at home. Take a look at pictures from the walk in the media gallery.
Led by the efforts of Stoughton High volleyball coach Ken Gay, the volleyball team, with an assist from the Stoughton High Student Council, recently organized a 5K fundraising walk for the American Cancer Society. In what has become an annual event, dozens of students (with a great showing of SHS student-athletes), teachers, coaches and parents gathered Saturday, Sept. 29 at Stoughton High on a damp morning to take part in the 3.1-mile walk. Just a couple of days before the start of October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, many came to the walk decked out in pink. Two Stoughton moms, recently struck by cancer, are taking to the Walpole High School track on June 15 and 16 to demonstrate their support for the American Cancer Society at this year’s 2012 Relay For Life of Greater Norwood.
Stoughton moms Theresa Stanley and Tracy NewBorn became acquainted with one another when their daughters became best friends back in kindergarten at the Dawe Elementary School. Their daughters, now 10 years old, are no longer their only common bond. Theresa and Tracy now share the unfortunate task of facing cancer head-on. In fact, they were diagnosed just months apart from one another. Tracy received her diagnosis of breast cancer last June and in October Theresa learned of her kidney cancer. Tracy explains, “When I was diagnosed Theresa was always emailing me positive things, then when she was diagnosed it was such a shock.” A visibly emotional Theresa said “we really became close.” While the two fought their battles, they found “the…
