FOX UNDERCOVER FEATURES PATCH STORY: Two months after it broke here on Stoughton Patch/Snydersstoughton.com, the story I wrote on the $500,000 appropriation for traffic lights in front Knollsbrook off Central St., the condominium complex where State Rep. Lou Kafka (D-Stoughton) lives, is making the news. Mike Beaudet, reporter for FOX 25 Undercover, was in Stoughton getting deeper into the story of money included in a Transportation Bond Bill, which was approved by the House and Senate, and signed by Governor Patrick in August. That bill also included funding to pay for half of the costs of the Stoughton Train Station, and future financing for it.   In my article, I de-emphasized the Kafka aspect of the story. I have donated to Lou's …

A CRAZY WEEKEND IN STOUGHTON:  About Town put a lot of miles on my sneakers this past weekend, running around to cover the plethora of events in town, like the open houses at the Fire Station and YMCA; the magic show at the library; the South School Pumpkin Patch; and the Rummage Sale at Ahavath Torah.  So, check out my quick synopsis and the photos that accompany them! OPEN HOUSE at FREEMAN FIRE STATION: Residents of Stoughton got to take tours of the (dilapidated) Freeman Street Fire Station in the downtown on Saturday.  Kids got to hang in a fire truck and also got to enjoy free pizza compliments of Papa Gino's in Stoughton.  All the children got a plastic fire helmet to bring home.  Firemen (and women) are heroes, and even the children…

JOE DAWE HONORED: Stoughton High School Athletic Director Ryan Donahue wanted to honor longtime Stoughton High football public address announcer Joseph Dawe, Jr. last Friday night, Sept. 28, at halftime of the Stoughton High-Mansfield High football game. Dawe was joined on field by the Stoughton High cheerleaders during a brief ceremony. As the public address announcer that night, I read a prepared statement that Donahue received from Joe’s son, Joseph Dawe III. This is what I read: Joe Dawe began his career in the Stoughton Public Schools in 1962 as a 6th grade teacher and later as the assistant principal at the Jones Elementary School.  During this time, Joe was a founding father of the Stoughton Public School's bilingual education …

STOUGHTON MOURNS THE LOSS OF JERRY SAVAGE:  Personally, I am deeply saddened by the passing of Jerald S. Savage, a CPA with Wallace, Savage & Davis in Stoughton. He died Wednesday, August 29. Jerry Savage was a vice chairman of the Zoning Board of Appeals, and was the campaign treasurer for former selectman John Anderson’s campaign.  Savage was a financial wizard who helped to save Curry College, and did the same for New England Sinai Hospital. He and his lovely wife Sheryl, Executive Director of College Advancement at Massasoit Community College in Canton, were very active at Ahavath Torah Congregation (where he served as President), and were very generous with their time and funds for many local charities.   In addition to his bride, …
