I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO A PASSOVER BRUNCH! OK. I admit it. I'm no a matzoh kind of guy. Passover, which does have great meaning to the Jewish people, never thrilled me. While everyone else at school was eating peanut butter and jelly in Wonder Bread, I had these dried out large tasteless crackers with peanut butter and jelly. But, I've grown up some! Eight years ago I went to a Passover Jazz Brunch and REALLY enjoyed it. The delicious eggs they managed to weave with the matzoh helped, and so did the abundance of other delicious foods, and the music! I've discovered since then that music and delicious breakfast will go hand in hand once again at Stoughton's Ahavath Torah Congregation's Eighth Annual Passover Jazz Brunch (and it could be …

NO AMBASSADOR FOR YOU! Last week, About Town reported the news that Ahavath Torah Congregation in Stoughton was hosting Dore Gold, former Ambassador to the United Nations for Israel, at the end of January. But Ambassador Gold had to ultimately end up declining the invite because of a scheduling conflict. On December 30, we received an enthusiastic email from the Temple's Rabbi, Jonathan Hausman, confirming Gold's appearance on January 28. Hausman said tickets were $125 and $250 and that it was sponsored by The Irwin M. and H. Ethel Hausman Memorial Free Speech Speakers’ Series. It went on to say that SecureAmericaNow.org would receive funds raised, to help underwrite the cost of the Ambassador’s appearance. Hausman wrote that, "This is a…

Celebrate Chanukah, the Festival of Lights, in Stoughton with fun events and delicious recipes. The holiday began Dec. 8 at sundown.
This year, the Jewish holiday of Chanukah began Saturday, Dec. 8 at sundown, and ends a week later on Sunday, Dec. 16. Chanukah, also known as the Festival of Lights, commemorates the story of the Maccabean Revolt against Syrian rulers in present day Israel 2,100 years ago. The victorious Maccabees wanted to rededicate Jerusalem's main temple but had only enough oil to kindle the Eternal Light for one day. But, the oil lasted for eight days, until more oil could be prepared, and the holiday of Chanukah was born. Today the holiday is commemorated with the lighting of the Menorah each of the eight nights, playing dreidel and eating special holiday foods like potato pancakes (latkes). Ahavath Torah Congregation in Stoughton hosted a night of music with Vinny Serino and the Danny Klein Full House Band Saturday, Nov. 3. Take a look at photos from the evening in the gallery.
ROCKING OUT ON A SATURDAY NIGHT! Fans of rock and blues really enjoyed the incredible music that permeated the sold-out room on Saturday, November 3 at Ahavath Torah Congregation in Stoughton. Top-rated Boston Baked Blues, backed by the Full House horns opened up, and played a long and seamless trio of sets that had the crowd dancing, and tapping their toes. Then, Danny Klein, an original member of J. Geils Band, and his group, Full House, rocked the house. They played all of J. Geils hits. Rabbi Jonathan Hausman, wearing cautionary earplugs, was right up front rocking to the sounds of both of these fantastic bands. Danny Klein, the one-and-only Ace on Bass for the mighty J. Geils Band, ripped through all the J. Geils songs you know and …

I adore Michael Graham. I have found him to be willing to listen to both sides, whether he agrees or not. Yes, I have heard him hang up on people but I was usually people spouting out or shouting things that gave no valid input to the topic.   more ›
