STEYN WARNS OF GROWING ISLAMIC CONCERNS: The parking lot was jammed full and cars were lined up and down Central Street last Wednesday night at Ahavath Torah Congregation in Stoughton to see a man who has written international best-sellers and is a regular substitute host for radio's legendary Rush Limbaugh. Mark Steyn packed them in and did not disappoint with his talk, "My Dagestani Brother's Keeper: Jihad, Welfare and the Western Death Wish." Rabbi Jonathan Hausman spoke first, saying, "People like Mark Steyn are doing their best to protect the freedom we enjoy in this country." Hausman, who said he was a co-founder of Z Street, mentioned that this particular Jewish organization is the first 401(C)3 to sue the IRS over their recent …

AHAVATH TORAH PULLS OUT OF MERGER TALKS: Tuesday, June 4 could become a very important date in the history of Stoughton’s oldest synagogue. At a special congregation meeting that night, which was attended by over 100 congregants, the members of Ahavath Torah Congregation overwhelmingly voted in favor of removing ATC from a proposed regionalization process with Temple Beth Emunah in Brockton and Temple Beth Am in Randolph. ATC President David Schulze said, “The conversation was intense and the points discussed were very detailed. In the end, the concepts of lost identity and a commitment to our Stoughton community were two of the overriding factors that caused the outcome. I think this experience opened the eyes of many of our congregants…

I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO A PASSOVER BRUNCH! OK. I admit it. I'm no a matzoh kind of guy. Passover, which does have great meaning to the Jewish people, never thrilled me. While everyone else at school was eating peanut butter and jelly in Wonder Bread, I had these dried out large tasteless crackers with peanut butter and jelly. But, I've grown up some! Eight years ago I went to a Passover Jazz Brunch and REALLY enjoyed it. The delicious eggs they managed to weave with the matzoh helped, and so did the abundance of other delicious foods, and the music! I've discovered since then that music and delicious breakfast will go hand in hand once again at Stoughton's Ahavath Torah Congregation's Eighth Annual Passover Jazz Brunch (and it could be …

The recommendation to merge, and begin attending services at the interim location in July of 2014 is not finalized. Each of the temple’s congregations still needs to vote on the plan. The vote is …

NO AMBASSADOR FOR YOU! Last week, About Town reported the news that Ahavath Torah Congregation in Stoughton was hosting Dore Gold, former Ambassador to the United Nations for Israel, at the end of January. But Ambassador Gold had to ultimately end up declining the invite because of a scheduling conflict. On December 30, we received an enthusiastic email from the Temple's Rabbi, Jonathan Hausman, confirming Gold's appearance on January 28. Hausman said tickets were $125 and $250 and that it was sponsored by The Irwin M. and H. Ethel Hausman Memorial Free Speech Speakers’ Series. It went on to say that SecureAmericaNow.org would receive funds raised, to help underwrite the cost of the Ambassador’s appearance. Hausman wrote that, "This is a…
