Norton 5th Grader Helps Raise Money for Family Impacted by Fire About a month after a fire broke out on the second floor of their 39 Evergreen Road home in Norton, the Clinkscale family is still recovering. But thanks to a few generous people like 11-year-old Nicholas Pucino, they are about $200 closer to getting back on their feet. A fifth grader at Henry A. Yelle Elementary, Nicholas’ bus drives by the home every day. When he found out about the fire, he thought it would be a good idea to have a fundraiser at the school to help the family out. As part of a special Stoughton Patch project, sixteen Stoughton students took turns reading one of the most famous speeches in American history, the Gettysburg Address.
As a special Presidents’ Day project, Stoughton Patch had 16 students from across the Stoughton Public Schools read what is one of, if not the most famous speeches delivered by an American President—The Gettysburg Address. President Abraham Lincoln delivered the Gettysburg Address on November 19, 1863 at a Civil War cemetery dedication in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. While short in length, the speech is deep in meaning. Students ranging in age from first grade to 12th grade, and representing each of Stoughton’s five elementary schools, middle school and high school, took turns reading the address. Presidents of the United States have spun interesting tales.
Did you know there was a president who couldn't stand the sight of blood? Or that one leader got stuck in the White House tub? Or who was the first president to use a nickname when he was sworn in as president, or the president who wasn't sworn in? How much do we really know about the 44 presidents of the United States, which is really 43 presidents? Grover Cleveland is actually the 22nd and 24th presidents after sitting out as No. 23 in favor of Benjamin Harrison.
