The goal of the event, held for the second consecutive year, is to reduce youth substance abuse on Prom night. And have some fun—there was also a fashion show, with a group of students modeling the latest prom fashions. Soldier Stationed in Afghanistan Speaks with 2nd Graders at Stoughton’s South School [VIDEO] Lt. Col. John Lee of the Army National Guard recently spoke with second graders at the South Elementary School via Skype while stationed in Afghanistan. Lt. Col. Lee, a Sharon resident, and his infantry returned home to the States on February 9. The second graders in Barbara Mills (his mother-in-law) and Jess Rosenthal’s classes at the South asked Lt. Col. Lee a variety of questions—everything from what the weather was like over there to what Afghan children did for fun to why he was over there to where he sleeps to if he felt safe. Calixte, a tri-captain on the boys’ basketball team, scored 32 in Stoughton’s 72-52 home win over Canton on Tuesday, giving him 1,005 points for his career. Watch video of Calixte reaching this milestone in the media gallery.
On a night where Stoughton High honored 1,000-point scorer Kris Joyce (SHS ’11) by unveiling his name on the 1,000-point banner that hangs in the school’s gymnasium, another player joined this elusive club. History was made Tuesday in the Stoughton High boys’ basketball team’s 72-52 win over Canton as Aaron Calixte scored his 1,000th career point, becoming the first player to do so as a junior. Calixte is just the 13th player overall in school history—boy or girl—to reach this scoring plateau. With 6:14 left in the fourth quarter and needing just two more points, Calixte gathered the ball at half court, took one dribble and launched a three-pointer slightly to the right of the top of the key. The Black Knights came away with a 72-52 win Tuesday evening at home, beating Canton for the second time this season. Junior Aaron Calixte scored 32 points, joining Stoughton’s 1,000-point club.
To say Tuesday night’s game was eventful would still be a huge understatement. Between the pregame celebration of the senior players and cheerleaders, and the in-game celebration of Aaron Calixte’s 1000th career point, it was easy to consider the night a success for the Stoughton High boys’ basketball team. But somewhere between all of that, there was a game to play. Stoughton was able to carry the positive energy from the pregame ceremony into the game and take down Canton, 72-52, improving to 15-2 on the season.
