Former SHS Basketball Star Calixte Flourishing in Transition from Stoughton High to Lee Academy

Catching up with Aaron Calixte, former Stoughton High boys' basketball captain who transferred to Lee Academy, a prep school in Maine, with the hopes of getting a scholarship from a major Division 1 college basketball school.

Whether it be for his huge performances in critical games - like scoring 38 points in a quadruple overtime game against rival Oliver Ames; or scoring 32 points at home against Canton bringing him over the 1,000 point mark, becoming the first player in school history to reach the milestone as a junior; or his heroics throughout the 2012 MIAA state tournament bringing his team to the TD Garden - or his warm-hearted personality and infectious smile, former Stoughton High boys' bsketball star Aaron Calixte will not soon be forgotten by his classmates, teachers and SHS community as a whole. In July, Calixte announced his decision to forgo his senior year at Stoughton High and transfer to a prep school in Maine to finish out his high school …

Calixte Explains Decision to Leave Stoughton High for Prep School

Boys' basketball star Aaron Calixte informed his SHS basketball coach, John Gallivan, that he will be transferring to Lee Academy in Maine. In a one-on-one interview, Calixte expressed faith in his now former teammates being able to succeed without him.

Although ex-Stoughton High boys' basketball captain Aaron Calixte's reign at the school will end after his junior season, the memories and legacy the now attendee of Lee Academy (located in Lee, Maine) leaves behind will last a lifetime for his former classmates and the Stoughton High community. Calixte, who started at point guard all three years of his Stoughton career, led his Black Knights to the MIAA state tournament every year, including a trip to the TD Garden this past season where the D2 South Sectional Champion Black Knights fell just short to Brighton in the D2 state semifinal game. Stoughton High coach John Gallivan told Stoughton Patch on Sunday that Calixte will be transferring to Lee Academy, a prep school in rural Maine. …

"I want to attend a four year college and above everything get a degree. If I'm lucky, and if everything goes right I hope to also play college basketball. It would be great to play college ball, but my education is most important to me." There is a kid who has his head on straight and priorities in order. Best of luck to him.   more ›

Basketball Star Calixte Not Returning to Stoughton High; Tells Coach He Will Attend Private School

Aaron Calixte informed his SHS basketball coach, John Gallivan, that he will be forgoing his senior year at Stoughton to attend Lee Academy in Maine.

In last winter's opening round state tournament contest, junior Aaron Calixte scored 13 of his game high 31 points in the fourth quarter helping the fourth-seeded Stoughton High boys' basketball team pull off a late game comeback against #13 Duxbury, 69-63, before an overflow crowd at the Stoughton High gymnasium. Barring a last-minute change of mind, it turns out that was Calixte's last home game at Stoughton High. Calixte, set to start his senior year at SHS in September, will instead attend Lee Academy in Maine in 2012-2013, Stoughton High boys' basketball head coach John Gallivan told Stoughton Patch. Even without the benefit of a four-year career in Stoughton, Calixte, a guard, will go down as one of the best players to ever suit up …

Calixte, Middleton Spark Comeback Win for Stoughton High Boys’ Basketball in Tournament Opener

The #4 Black Knights trailed by eight points midway through the fourth, but came back to defeat #13 Duxbury, 69-63, Tuesday night in the opening round of the MIAA Division 2 South Sectional boys’ basketball tournament.

Trailing in the middle of the fourth quarter, Stoughton’s two best players each stepped up to do what they do best. Junior guard Aaron Calixte scored 13 of his game-high 31 points in the final frame, while classmate Marcus Middleton provided “the best defense” Stoughton head coach John Gallivan has ever seen in Stoughton’s gym. Despite falling behind as much as 8 points late in the game, the fourth-seeded Black Knights boys’ basketball team stormed back to knock of #13 Duxbury, 69-63, in the first round of the MIAA Division 2 South Sectional boys’ basketball tournament, Tuesday night. “Offensively it was Aaron of course,” Gallivan said of what sparked the comeback. “Defensively, Marcus turned that game around putting that kind of ball …

Postseason Primer: Stoughton High Boys’ Basketball Takes on Duxbury Tuesday

The Stoughton High Black Knights boys’ basketball team (16-4) hosts Duxbury (11-9) in a first round matchup in the MIAA Division 2 South Sectional Tournament.

The Duxbury High boys’ basketball team may only be 11-9, but Stoughton coach John Gallivan said the Dragons are “probably the hottest team in Division 2 South right now,” having won six of seven, including a 68-55 win over Oliver Ames in the regular season finale. The Black Knights (16-4), the #4 seed in the Division 2 South Sectional bracket, will host Duxbury, the #13 seed, Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Stoughton High. It’s a game that will feature Stoughton’s speed going up against Duxbury’s height—four of the five players in Duxbury’s starting five are 6’3 or 6’4. Stoughton’s tallest player, Antonio Ferreira, is 6’3. Gallivan said he expects to face a well-coached, well-disciplined team. Once ravaged by injuries, Duxbury, by all accounts, is …

Former Boys’ Basketball Star Kris Joyce Honored by Stoughton High

Kris Joyce’s name was added to the banner honoring the school’s 1,000-point scorers. Joyce (SHS ’11) was recognized at halftime of a February 14 game against Canton.

At halftime of their final home game of the regular season Tuesday against Canton, the Stoughton High boys’ basketball team and the Stoughton High Athletics Department honored one of the most prolific scorers and best all-around players in program history, Kris Joyce, a 2011 graduate of Stoughton High. Joyce became the 12th player in school history—boy or girl—to reach the 1,000-point scoring mark. Joyce joined the club in a 77-52 win over Foxboro on February 5, 2011. His name was recently added to the banner of 1,000-point scorers that hangs in the Stoughton High gymnasium. His former teammate, current SHS junior Aaron Calixte, fittingly joined the 1,000-point club Tuesday night against Canton, with Joyce in attendance. Joyce was a four-…

Aaron Calixte Joins Stoughton High’s 1,000-Point Club as Junior [VIDEO]

Calixte, a tri-captain on the boys’ basketball team, scored 32 in Stoughton’s 72-52 home win over Canton on Tuesday, giving him 1,005 points for his career. Watch video of Calixte reaching this milestone in the media gallery.

On a night where Stoughton High honored 1,000-point scorer Kris Joyce (SHS ’11) by unveiling his name on the 1,000-point banner that hangs in the school’s gymnasium, another player joined this elusive club. History was made Tuesday in the Stoughton High boys’ basketball team’s 72-52 win over Canton as Aaron Calixte scored his 1,000th career point, becoming the first player to do so as a junior. Calixte is just the 13th player overall in school history—boy or girl—to reach this scoring plateau. With 6:14 left in the fourth quarter and needing just two more points, Calixte gathered the ball at half court, took one dribble and launched a three-pointer slightly to the right of the top of the key. The ball floated in the air as the entire gym …

Stoughton High Boys’ Basketball Beats Canton on Senior Night

The Black Knights came away with a 72-52 win Tuesday evening at home, beating Canton for the second time this season. Junior Aaron Calixte scored 32 points, joining Stoughton’s 1,000-point club.

To say Tuesday night’s game was eventful would still be a huge understatement. Between the pregame celebration of the senior players and cheerleaders, and the in-game celebration of Aaron Calixte’s 1000th career point, it was easy to consider the night a success for the Stoughton High boys’ basketball team. But somewhere between all of that, there was a game to play. Stoughton was able to carry the positive energy from the pregame ceremony into the game and take down Canton, 72-52, improving to 15-2 on the season. Behind a monster performance from Calixte – who tallied 32 points, 9 rebounds, and 8 assists – the Black Knights were able to pull away in the second frame and finished with strong runs in each of the final two quarters. “I …

In Hockomock Heavyweight Match, Stoughton High Boys’ Basketball Outlasts King Philip

The Black Knights edged the Warriors 73-69 on the road Tuesday night, coming away with the win in a battle of 9-1 teams.

The objective was simple for the Stoughton High boys’ basketball team: play the whole game. After giving up the lead against Mansfield and almost letting Oliver Ames come back earlier this season, falling asleep was not going to be an option against King Philip. “All we talked about is [playing] 32 minutes or more if we have to,” Stoughton head coach John Gallivan said. In a jammed pack KP gym, the Black Knights walked away with an important win. With both schools’ fans bringing the noise, it was the Stoughton fans who had the last laugh Tuesday night. “It feels good, really good. We came to their home court, they had a crazy crowd and we shut them up,” Stoughton guard Aaron Calixte said. Stretching the lead to 11 late in the game, the …

Okay, unless you were at this game against KP, trying to describe what we witnessed wouldn't do the team & their efforts justice. This was a game for the ages & one that fans that attended will be talking about for years to come. An instant classic! With two of the top players in the state in Calixte & Layman facing off against each other, this was a special game that took on greater meaning …   more ›
