Friday, August 17 is Last Day to Register to Vote in Massachusetts State Primary Election

The Stoughton Town Clerk's Office (first floor of Town Hall) will be open from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Friday, August 17 for voter registration. The state primary will be held September 6.

Stoughton Town Clerk Cheryl Mooney reminds Stoughton residents that Friday, August 17 is the last day for voter registration for the September 6 state primary election.  The Town Clerk's Office (first floor of Town Hall) will be open from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Friday, August 17 for voter registration. Usually the office is open on the last day of voter registration until 8 p.m., but under Section 51 of Chapter 239 of the Acts of 2012, the State has changed the registration session until 5 p.m. (instead of 8 p.m.) due to the fact that most town halls are closed or are only open until noon on Fridays, Mooney said. The general election (which will include the presidential contest) will be held Tuesday, November 6. The last day to register…

POLL: Massachusetts Republicans Say VP Pick Paul Ryan Energizes Campaign

Patch asked political influencers state-wide to react to the news Paul Ryan will be Mitt Romney's running mate.

An overwhelming majority of influential Republicans from Massachusetts say Mitt Romney's choice of running mate, Wisconsin Representative Paul Ryan, will galvanize the state's GOP: that’s the finding of a Red Commonwealth Snap Poll survey of influential conservatives sent out after Saturday's announcement. When Patch asked Massachusetts Republicans if Paul Ryan as vice president would help undecided voters in the state, the answers were split down the middle with half saying they strongly agree and the other half saying they strongly disagree. "He is incredibly smart and can convey concepts in easy-to-understand language," one respondent said was an advantage to having Ryan on the Romney ticket. Others noted Ryan's youth, ability to …

POLL: Massachusetts Democrats Say VP Pick Paul Ryan's Budget Plans Will Hurt Republicans

Patch asked political influencers to react to the news Paul Ryan will be Mitt Romney's running mate.

Massachusetts Democrats believe that with Rep. Paul Ryan on the Romney ticket, they can win by running against Ryan's existing budget plans, particularly his proposal for Medicare.  In a Blue Commonwealth Snap Poll survey sent out shortly after Romney announced Paul Ryan will be his running mate, Massachusetts Democrats reacted to the decision. "[The decision] defines Romney as a conservative who aligns himself with the tea party," one respondent said. "The Ryan Budget is regarded as "extreme" by its detractors. The Ryan Budget is controversial and Obama-Biden have to keep playing that card in a fitting manner," another political influencer answered. When asked if Romney's choice would help the Obama-Biden ticket win over Massachusetts …

POLL: Campaign 2012—Who Will Win?

We’re a year out from the 2012 election. Can President Barack Obama win a second term? How will Senator Scott Brown fare? Take our poll and let us know.

Tuesday, Nov. 8 is Election Day, and it will be a fairly quiet one with only town or citywide positions on the ballot for those communities heading to the polls. But at this time next year, Americans will be casting their vote in the 2012 presidential election. In Massachusetts, Senator Scott Brown will also be making his bid for reelection. There will also be assorted races for congressional representation and races for state representative and state senator. Polls show that a majority of Americans disapprove of President Barack Obama’s job performance and that they feel the country is on the wrong track. In a race against a generic Republican, the President trails, according to a Real Clear Politics average of the latest polls. But, when…
