Trailing by as much as 18, the SHS girls’ basketball team came back, took the lead, but couldn’t hold it down the stretch, as Newton North secured a 49-45 win in the first round of the MIAA Division 1 South Sectional tournament.
Midway through the second quarter, the Stoughton High girls’ basketball team trailed Newton North 32-14 in a game that looked like the Tigers would put away by halftime. But the Black Knights went to a press defense and went on a 23-3 run, tying the game at 35 with 1:51 left in the third and taking the lead a little more than a minute later on a Chrystal Holland layup. Stoughton trailed by one, 38-37, going into the fourth, but held a 45-42 lead with 3:42 left to play. Gettysburg Address Project As a special Presidents’ Day video project, Stoughton Patch had 16 students from across the Stoughton Public Schools read what is one of, if not the most famous speeches delivered by an American President—The Gettysburg Address. The MIAA released its postseason state tournament brackets for boys’ and girls’ high school basketball on Friday. Both the Stoughton High boys’ and girls’ varsity teams are tournament bound.
The Stoughton High boys’ basketball team’s postseason road starts with a game against Duxbury, while the SHS girls’ basketball team will face Newton North in the first round of the state tournament. The MIAA released its postseason state tournament brackets on Friday. The Stoughton High boys’ basketball team finished the regular season 16-4, earning the #4 seed in the Division 2 South Sectional Bracket. The Black Knights will host the Duxbury Dragons (11-9), the #13 seed, Tuesday, February 28 at 7 p.m. in a first round game. The winner of this game will play March 1 against the winner of the game between #5 Medfield vs. #12 Norwood.
