Region Roundup: Man Shot in Stomach; Million Dollar Marijuana Bust; 1000 Point Scorers (And More...)

A look at what is happening around the region.

Synagogues in Stoughton, Brockton, Randolph Looking to Merge A Tri-Congregational Discussion on Regionalization for three local synagogues was held on Thursday, Feb. 14 at Temple Beth Emunah in Brockton. Representatives of Ahavath Torah Congregation in Stoughton and Temple Beth Am in Randolph also attended the meeting, which attracted over 250 interested parties. The plan, still in the discussion phase, is for these three temples to merge into one congregation and use an interim site (Temple Beth Emunah) until a new building is constructed. The recommendation to merge, and begin attending services at the interim location in July of 2014 is not finalized. Each of the temple’s congregations still needs to vote on the plan. The vote is …

Sorry about that Jeff, but most impressed that you take note and respond. Just my 2 cents, but I just don't see how someone shot in Attleboro is in anyway pertinent to local Stoughton news. I don't even think I read that piece in the Globe? Perhaps I'm mistaken, but I perceive the Patch as local access news/information and Attleboro must be 20 miles and 4 towns distant.   more ›

Marcus Middleton Joins Stoughton High's 1,000-Point Club

Stoughton High boys' basketball senior captain Marcus Middleton became the 14th player in school history - boy or girl - to score 1,000 career points.

Take a look at a video of Middleton scoring his 1000th career point in the media gallery of this article.  *** Needing four points to become the 14th player in school history - boy or girl - to score 1,000 career points, Stoughton High boys' basketball senior captain Marcus Middleton stole the ball twice in the first quarter Sunday night against Boston Latin and both times headed to the hoop for an uncontested layup.  The first steal came about a minute and a half into the game, which led to an easy layup, giving Middleton 998 career points. The second steal came with 1:57 left in the first quarter. The senior captain, known for his tenacious defense, jarred the ball loose around mid court and headed to the basket. Aaron Calixte Joins Stoughton High’s 1,000-Point Club as Junior [VIDEO]

Calixte, a tri-captain on the boys’ basketball team, scored 32 in Stoughton’s 72-52 home win over Canton on Tuesday, giving him 1,005 points for his career. Watch video of Calixte reaching this milestone in the media gallery.

On a night where Stoughton High honored 1,000-point scorer Kris Joyce (SHS ’11) by unveiling his name on the 1,000-point banner that hangs in the school’s gymnasium, another player joined this elusive club. History was made Tuesday in the Stoughton High boys’ basketball team’s 72-52 win over Canton as Aaron Calixte scored his 1,000th career point, becoming the first player to do so as a junior. Calixte is just the 13th player overall in school history—boy or girl—to reach this scoring plateau. With 6:14 left in the fourth quarter and needing just two more points, Calixte gathered the ball at half court, took one dribble and launched a three-pointer slightly to the right of the top of the key. The ball floated in the air as the entire gym …
