The All-Pro Patriots Celebrity Basketball Team took on the Stoughton Police All-Stars in a charity game to benefit the Stoughton Police Relief Association.
Last year it was quarterback Brian Hoyer who led the Patriots to victory past the Stoughton Police with a barrage of three-pointers. In this year's game, with Hoyer absent, it was another of Tom Brady's backups, Ryan Mallett, who stole the show, using his height advantage (listed at 6'6") to get dunk after dunk. The All-Pro Patriots Celebrity Basketball Team earned a 79-46 victory over the Stoughton Police All-Stars Friday night, May 18, before a capacity crowd at the Stoughton High School gymnasium. The game benefited the Stoughton Police Relief Association. Aside from Mallett, current Patriots kicker Stephen Gostkowski, safety Patrick Chung, linebacker Dane Fletcher, free agent running back Kevin Faulk, and former players Steve DeOssie, …

National Police Week is May 15-21. Here are some fun and easy ways to show your appreciation.
President John F. Kennedy set aside, by Presidential Proclamation in 1962, every May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day, as well as the week it falls on as National Police Week. As a result, National Police Week is May 13-19 this year. One of the event’s sponsors, the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, states that “on average one law enforcement officer is killed in the line of duty…every 53 hours. Since the first known line-of-duty death in 1791, more than 19,000 U.S. law enforcement officers have made the ultimate sacrifice.” The poem, In The Line of Duty captures the essense of National Police Week with a poignant reminder: “Today an officer will place their badge on their chest. The Stoughton Fire Department responded to a gas leak at 49 Winfisky Dr. late Tuesday afternoon. There were no injuries and crews were able to contain the leak.
The Stoughton Fire Department responded to a report of a gas leak at 49 Winfisky Dr. in Stoughton Tuesday at 4:09 p.m. after a chimney partially collapsed at the home, falling on a gas meter, Captain Don Jasmin of the SFD said. This is the same house that was significantly damaged during a fire on the afternoon of March 24. Jasmin said the partial chimney collapse may have had something to do with the structural damage to the house caused by the March fire, although the Captain said the official cause is under investigation. There were no injuries to civilians or first responders, but as a precaution Jasmin said about eight homes on the street were evacuated. (Winfisky Dr. is located in a neighborhood off Bay Road.) Members of the Cooper …
On the opening night of Stoughton's Annual Town Meeting, Town Meeting representatives voted to establish the position of Deputy Police Chief.
Town Meeting members voted by a near 3-1 margin Monday night to support a key component of Stoughton Police Chief Paul Shastany's plan to reorganize the department, backing an article to establish the position of Deputy Police Chief. Despite some vocal opposition during a lengthy discussion of the article, it easily passed by a vote of 99-36. The vote created the position of deputy; it did not set any parameters of the job, except for the fact it will be exempt from Civil Service. The Massachusetts State Legislature (both the House and Senate) must now approve the creation of the position before it can be officially established. Monday, May 7 marked the start of the 2012 Annual Town Meeting in Stoughton, with Town Meeting Representatives …
