Stoughton Obituaries (Week of May 14)

The following are obituaries for Stoughton residents or those with Stoughton ties for the week of May 14.

Marthe M. (Laroche) Wells Marthe M. (Laroche) Wells, 77, died Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at the Blue Hills Alzheimer's Care Center in Stoughton after a period of failing health. Born in Cape Haitian, Haiti, she was raised and educated in Haiti. Mrs. Wells came to the United States at age 19 and continued her education at Providence-Barrington Bible College in Rhode Island. She was a resident of Stoughton for over 40 years. She worked as a nurse at Massachusetts General Hospital, at the Brockton Visiting Nurse Association and as a private duty nurse for many years, retiring in 1995. She was an active member of the People's Baptist Church in Boston and later at Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Brockton for many years. She is survived by her two sons…

The following are obituaries for Stoughton residents or those with Stoughton ties for the week of May 7.

Robert D. Rideout Robert D. Rideout, 90, died Monday, May 7 at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton. He was the husband of the late Antoinette L. (Anastasi) Rideout. Born in Dorchester Lower Mills, he was raised and educated in Dorchester. Mr. Rideout was a resident of Hough's Neck in Quincy for several years before moving to Stoughton in 1962. He was a Veteran of the US Army in both WWII and Korea. He worked as a steel worker for over 40 years and then as an Iron Worker for Local 501 in Boston for over eight years. In younger days, he worked as a Stone Cutter for Canniff Monument. He was a member of several clubs including the Middleboro Elks, the Sons of Italy in Easton, the VFW Milton Post in Dorchester, the Milton Yacht Club …

Robert H. Botsch Robert H. Botsch, loving husband and caregiver of over 62 years to the late Alice E. Botsch, a United States Marine Corps Aircraft Mechanic, Veteran of WWII, and a lifelong Stoughton resident, passed away at home on Friday, April 27, 2012. He was 87 years old. Mr. Botsch is survived by his four children, Cynthia Rae Magoon and her late husband Tom of Waltham, Donna B. Davey and her husband Timothy of Norfolk, Robert H. Botsch Jr. and his wife Cheryl, of Southbridge and Sharyn B. Stedman and her husband John of Norton. Other survivors include his sister Joan Cutillo of Mansfield, his five grandchildren, Kara and Gregory Davey of Norfolk, Robert Botsch of Southbridge, Amanda and Thomas Stedman of Norton and his uncle Arthur …

Jane Sheehan, a former Director of Guidance at Stoughton High, passed away on March 8. George Moses, former Stoughton Auxiliary Police Lieutenant and Captain, passed away on March 10.

FORMER SHS GUIDANCE DIRECTOR PASSES AWAY: It saddens me to inform you that Jane Welch Sheehan, former Director of Guidance and Testing for the Stoughton Public Schools, passed away March 8. Sheehan began her career with the Stoughton Public Schools in 1972 as an English teacher at Stoughton High School. She was appointed to the position of Guidance Counselor in 1979.  In 1986, Sheehan became the Director of Guidance and Testing, K-12, a position she held until her retirement in June 2007.  Sheehan graduated from Stoughton High, and was educated at Salem State and Bridgewater State. Sheehan also did extensive graduate work at Bridgewater State College, Fitchburg State College, Salem State College and Plymouth State College. A resident of …

CONDOLENCES I:  About Town sends condolences to the family of Len Gold, a former member of the Stoughton Redevelopment Authority and former regular on The Local News, hosted by Dick Murphy. Gold had also served as Chairman of the Stoughton Republican Town Committee.  He passed away on Thursday. “I met Len when we served together on the Stoughton Redevelopment Authority. He was an incredibly moral and honest man. I always knew he could be counted on to do the right thing no matter what the price," current School Committee member Deborah Sovinee said. A TERRIBLE LOSS: Friends for Seniors Secretary Lorraine McCarthy tells About Town the bad news:  "John O’Meara died suddenly on Friday [January 13]. John’s death was so sudden. He had been in the hospital, then rehab and was doing well since he was discharged. John called last week and said put on the tea kettle Bobbie and I are on our way over. Dennis and I were so lucky to see him. He looked so good and he said he was feeling good. We are all going to miss John." I had the pleasure of sitting with fellow Precinct 2 member O'Meara at Town Meeting for many years. He sat right behind me when I was vice chairman. FORMER SHS AD PASSES AWAY: Former Stoughton High Athletic Director Peter B. Looney died Friday, December 23, after a four-month battle with brain cancer. He had long coaching careers at Apponequet Regional High School in Lakeville and the University of Connecticut. He was an esteemed softball coach, named National High School Softball Coach of the Year in 1981, according to South Coast Today. He was known for his work with softball pitchers. Looney left Apponequet in 1987 and became AD at SHS, where he served until the early 2000s. “I worked closely with Peter for the time he was AD. We developed a close friendship and am saddened by his loss,” Stoughton High varsity field hockey and ice hockey coach Dan Mark said. “He brought class to SHS…

TOWN MOURNS FOR YOUNG HERO: Friday's Veterans Day ceremony at Town Hall started off with a moment of silence for Theodore J. "T.J." Ingemanson, a young Stoughton veteran who died last Wednesday. Ingemanson was the member of the Stoughton VFW Color Guard who carried the American flag at the Memorial Day, Veterans Day and July 4th parades. He passed away after a tragic fall at home. "T.J.", a disabled Iraq War Veteran, died accidentally on Nov. 9 at the age of 32. T.J. is survived by his son Corey, his father Ted, his brother Robert and sister Catherine. He was predeceased by his mother, Paula Mulkay-Ingemanson and grandparents, Joan and Joe Mulkay. He was a longtime highly decorated, extremely proud Army Reservist. He loved his military …

STOUGHTON MOURNING ON TWO FRONTS:   DAVID PARSONS – Stoughton mourns the loss of David Parsons of Malcolm & Parsons Insurance Agency, who passed away Thursday morning, after a three month battle against cancer. He was 53. Parsons was the current president of the Malcolm & Parsons Insurance Agency located in Stoughton Center, at the corner of Washington and Freeman Street. Parsons graduated from business school in 1980, gaining experience working for various financial firms on Wall Street for over five years. Finding his temperament more suited to insurance than Wall Street, he joined the Malcolm & Parsons Insurance Agency in sales, attended extensive insurance schooling, quickly passing all licensing tests (including the State’s highest …

Former Stoughton High Principal Dr. Daniel Davis Unexpectedly Passes Away

Davis had a 30-year career at Stoughton High, where he was a teacher, social studies department head, and later, principal. He died on Oct. 19.

The flag at Stoughton High School flew at half-staff on Friday, in memory of Dr. Daniel F. Davis, a former teacher, social studies department head, and principal at SHS, who unexpectedly passed away on Oct. 19, while on a teaching mission in India. Davis was at Stoughton High School for 30 years, retiring as principal after the 2002-2003 school year. He spent the last eight years teaching at Boston University’s School of Education. Current Social Studies department head John Gallivan said his predecessor was a “Renaissance Man.” “[Davis was an] amazing bundle of energy, going in 12 different directions at one time,” Gallivan said. “He truly was a life-long learner,” Gallivan continued. “He was one of the smartest people I ever met.
