I own a .22 semi-auto with a 10-round clip. Do you propose, Tyler, that my semi be illegal? IRead More don't think so. By the way, women rarely kill themselves or anyone else with guns. We prefer to OD; less messy. No self-respecting legal gun owner would even consider selling a firearm illegally or doing straw purchases. We don't want to jeopardize our own licenses but the real reason is we don't want gang-bangers, thugs, robbers, thieves and other assorted hoodlums owning guns. The dishonest felons buy guns from other dishonest felons, hoodlums and other undesirable riffraff. Tyler, you are just repeating liberal talking points (& getting them seriously wrong) and other anti-gun groups uninformed "noise" masquerading as supposed truths. You'd do well to stop listening to the self-righteous pompous far-left zealots on MSNBC, stop reading Huffington Post owned by a self-proclaimed Socialist and do your own unbiased research. After doing your own research you might still not like guns but at least you'd get your facts straight and be able to have an informed intelligent discussion based on facts, not fairy tales, emotions & uber left-wing anti-gun propaganda, which has been debunked by stats for years.

Tyler, I suspect that semi-auto does not mean what you think it means. A lot of people think itRead More refers to an action seen by machine guns but that is an automatic, not a semi-auto. An example of a semi-auto is the pistol on the hip of a cop. You get one billet only when you pull the trigger. If you hold the trigger down, nothing else is fired. It will just sit there. Sometimes on TV they will use the term wrong which makes it harder to understand what it really is.

Slower traffic should always move to the most extreme left lane possible. This promotes the movementRead More of traffic in all lanes, eliminates the potential of tailgate situations and the number of lane changes to get around slower moving vehicles thus reducing potential for blind spot accidents, enhances the smooth and rapid movement of traffic. Maybe most significantly it is the courteous thing to do! This proposed bill has some serious problems with it. First of all shame on DeLeo for the processRead More that was used. Deleo should have appointed a member of Gun Owners Action League (who represents the 200,000 + lawful gun owners in Mass) to serve on this committee. The state has done it for all of the other controversial bills such as the Construction Reform Act which included strong representation from the construction unions, architects and municipalities. The absence of that representation resulted in a poorer understanding of the problems with the existing law that could have been addressed and a clearer understanding of the impact some of these sections have on lawful gun owners. One of the many major problem areas in the proposed bill will allow police chiefs the right to arbitrarily deny permits to anyone without any probable cause or justification. There is already abuses in this area in some communities where police chiefs are denying lawful citizens for no lawful reason. Imagine the outrage if a similar condition was applied for your drivers license. This bill needs to be defeated in its present form.
Tyler Jozefowicz June 24, 2014 at 09:47 pm
dont link my posts: i read it and like it. Elements of the bill: 1) Requiring background checks forRead More all gun purchases at every point of sale. 2) Bringing Massachusetts into compliance with the National Instant Check System (NICS) regarding mental health records. 3) Expanding police discretion to include suitability on issuance of firearms identification cards, so the known nut jobs aren’t packing. 4) Requiring law enforcement to collect data on guns. 5)Prevent so-called straw purchases and gun trafficking. The added requirements for reporting of stolen or missing guns and fines for failure to do so, as well as requiring a list of guns for license renewal. You can keep your gun but we’re watching you. Needs to be added by amendment- limits on the number of handguns any person can purchase in a month’s time- terrorists and gang bangers. As far as heller goes for the constitutional scholars out there, the right to bear arms according to Scalia extends only to carrying in a home , no where else. Scalia might be dumb, but he's not stupid. The stupidity come in when commentors here lie by saying that the court ruled there is freedom to own guns. Not so, but the lies continue , for without the lies the tent collapses.

Coincidentally, today's Boston Globe has a story about how violent crime among teenagers in BostonRead More is expected to rise strikingly this year. The chief concern, among clergy, community leaders and lawmakers, is that without school during the summer and without part-time jobs, kids have no incentive to go to bed at a reasonable hour and wake up at a reasonable hour, thus staying out all night and getting into trouble. Mayor Marty Walsh has asked businesses to please consider hiring teenagers during the summer to prevent this. This bill will ensure that businesses choose otherwise; and it's not because they don't care. Another Massachusetts big labor success story!

Wayne Bruce June 3, 2014 at 08:34 am
Steven, this is one of the few recent times the NRA leadership has actually listened to itsRead More membership. In three large polls stretching back two years (Pew Research Foundation, Repub. pollster Frank Luntz, and Johns Hopkins), more than 75 percent of NRA members (!) have supported provisions such as expanded background checks, despite the loud opposition by NRA leadership. Steven Sadowski June 3, 2014 at 11:36 am
Wayne: The problem with polls is that they measure the "what," but not theRead More "how." For example, if you took a Socialist, a Democrat, a Republican and a Libertarian and asked them, "Do you think we need to do something about ending homelessness?" You'll get 4 "yes," answers. But then when you ask, "How would you end homelessness?," that's when you'll have divergence. I have no problem with tough background checks, or enhanced licensing requirements. I just turned in my application to renew my class A and you'll be happy to know I'm not a felon and I'm even a step 9 driver! And if I had to re-qualify, or even if I had to take my 3 hour course again, I'd be OK with that. They make you do the eye chart when you get your driver's license, so...But it's when we get into "how" are we going to keep the insane from getting guns, or "how" do we share info. and tighten the requirements, that's when you're going to get arguments and all of a sudden that 75% gets split. Lastly, those idiots at Chili's were neither insane nor criminals, they were just young and stupid. You can legislate against stupid. If we could Obama and Warren wouldn't have been elected : )
