Tensions Run High as Stoughton High Baseball Falls to Silver Lake

Stoughton fell 3-0 Saturday on the road, but received a strong pitching performance from junior Mike Dixon.

Junior Mike Dixon pitched a gem of a game for the , allowing just 3 runs over 6 innings at Silver Lake.

Dixon, who made his first start of the season Saturday morning, kept the Lakers scoreless through 4 innings. The Knights unfortunately could not get the bats going, due to a great Silver Lake pitching performance.

As a result, Stoughton dropped its third straight, falling 3-0. The Knights are 1-4 on the season.

Captain Patrick Jackman praised Dixon when stating, "He's a workhorse. He came in and had a , and today he started and really had his stuff going. Silver Lake is a good hitting team, and he was working them in and out real well. He's going to get some wins for us this year."

Tension between the two teams was raised to a maximum in the top of the fifth inning, when Mike Dixon struck out and ran to first as the catcher dropped the ball. The first baseman deliberately pushed Dixon off the bag, allowing Jackman to run home. As Jackman reached the plate he was taunted by the Silver Lake catcher which resulted in both benches emptying.

The issue was resolved, with Dixon ultimately being called out for interference; and Jackman, who was ejected, had a pinch runner go to third for him, as he was called back as well. It would have been a 3-1 game if Jackman’s run had been counted.

After the game Jackman talked about both the positives and negatives of his team’s performance.

"We did not get the bats going today" Jackman said. "We need to start scoring some runs if we want to win ball games. Dixon pitched a magnificent game, and we could not support him at all. On the flip side we played better defensively today, not committing as many errors as the previous games. We need to continue to play smart baseball."

The two teams will meet again Friday in Stoughton, where the Knights will seek revenge. Before that the Knights travel to North Attleboro Monday afternoon.
