Stoughton's 11A Baseball Team Wins Cal Ripken State Championship

After winning the 2013 Cal Ripken Baseball Eastern Massachusetts State Championship, the Stoughton Youth Baseball 11A all-star team advances to the New England Regional Championship in August.

Outscoring the opposition 54-11, the Stoughton Youth Baseball 11A all-star team swept its way through the Cal Ripken Baseball Eastern Massachusetts State Championship Tournament in the 11-year-old division.

Stoughton won the title with a 9-3 victory over Arlington National in the championship game held July 21.

Stoughton advanced to the state championship tournament after winning the Cal Ripken District 4 Tournament with a 5-1 record.

At the state tournament, which was held in Lowell, Stoughton was a perfect 6-0.

Stoughton cruised through the first three games of pool play, beating Chelmsford 4-1 on July 13, beating Quincy 16-0 on July 15, and beating Westford 11-0 on July 17.

Stoughton had to play a second game on July 17, the final game in pool play, edging Arlington American 7-6, to earn the top seed heading into the championship rounds.

In the semifinals on July 20, Stoughton beat Plymouth 7-1. And the next day, July 21, Stoughton proved it was the top 11-year-old Cal Ripken Baseball team in Eastern Massachusetts, with the 9-3 win over Arlington National in the finals.

Now Stoughton advances to the Cal Ripken New England Regional Championship Tournament in Warwick, RI from August 3-8.

Stoughton players include: Evan Gibb (who won State Tournament MVP), Michael Croke, Cameron Dirosa, Myles Powell, Colin Joyce, Colin Plante, Noah Johnson, A.J Marangos, George Currier, Tommy Jasmin, and Connor Tracey.

The team is coached by Shawn Croke, Steve Gibb, Dave Joyce, and Steve Plante.
