Stoughton to Host '5 School 5K & Kids Mud Run' This Month

The event is set for a week from Saturday and will involve a mud run for kids.

Runners in Stoughton, take note. 

The fourth annual "It's Elementary! 5 School 5K & Kids MUD Run" is set to return on Saturday, May 17. 

The event, which will take place in conjunction with the Old Colony YMCA of Stoughton, was formed in a spirit of cooperation and community by the Parent-Teacher Organizations/Associations for Stoughton's five elementary schools. The event is also mean to help promote  the ideals of competition, personal bests, healthy choices and teamwork, according to Stoughton5K.com

More than 200 runners from across Southeastern Massachusetts have registered in past years. New to this year's event, though, is the kids fun run, which has been changed to a mud run. 

The 5K will begin at 9:30 a.m. on May 17, with the Mud Run taking place at 11:30 a.m. at the Old Colony YMCA, 445 Central St. in Stoughton. The mud run will be a loop on the YMCA grounds.

Children will run in age-appropriate waves, and kids aged 5-14 years can participate in the mud run. 

Registration fees are as follows:

  • Mud Run: $25 before May 16, $30 on site.
  • 5K: $30 before May 16, $35 on site.
  • Returned Check Fee: $20
