Stoughton's U18 Boys' Soccer Team Looking for Finals Berth

(SYSL) U18 boys’ team will take on second seed Holbrook Saturday, June 16 in the South Shore Soccer League Playoffs at Braintree High School.

Under head coach John Del Valle, Stoughton advanced to the playoffs as the tournament’s third seed after finishing the regular season with a record of 4-3-1. The winner will advance to Sunday’s championship game against the winner of the other semifinal featuring Bridgewater against East Bridgewater.

Stoughton and Holbrook faced off in a regular season match at the on West Street in Stoughton about three weeks ago, resulting in a 1-1 tie.

After winning only one game last season, Stoughton has improved with a mix of talented freshmen and sophomores, as well as veteran leadership from the team’s juniors and seniors.

Players representing Stoughton include: Cameron Ramos; Mikey Cardoso; Mike Paukner; Kevin Bernard; Joseph Ialuna; Nick Kampouris; Tyler Reis; Gabe Garcia; Melvin Amado; Nick Anastasi; Zach Monahan; Mohammad Houraibi; Brendan Buttner; Charlie Morrill; Shane Gichel; Marcus Leite; James Comeau; and Matt Fitzgerald.

The team’s motto is “Together” and they will have to work together this Saturday against a tough Holbrook squad that finished second in the division with a 5-1-1 record.

For the seniors, some of whom have been playing with SYSL since they were four or five years old, a loss would mean their last game in Stoughton Youth Soccer. A victory would mean a chance to grab glory in the SSL finals on Sunday.

Stoughton families are invited to cheer on the boys at the game, which will be played at 10 a.m. on Field 3 (see map in photo gallery). The address for Braintree High is 128 Town Street in Braintree.
