STOUGHTON PATCH FOOTBALL FRIDAY: Black Knights Count on Green

Lennox Green is a dangerous weapon out of the backfield.
He's also pretty dangerous as a kick returner.
And he's an outstanding defensive back, and his interception was to key to the Stoughton High football team's 40-13 win over Canton last Friday. The 4-1 Black Knights will be hosting Stoughton Friday at 6 p.m., in the annual Homecoming Game.
So what position is Green going to play in college? Try punter.
''He's been to a couple of kicking schools," said Stoughton High head coach Greg Burke. "He's going to college, and he is going to kick for someone next year. He's an awesome kicker.
"We haven't had to kick a ton this year, but he bails you out. I'm very, very happy with that."
Green showed that with a 52-yard punt against Canton to start the game.
So what position does he want to play?
"In college, I want to be a wide receiver," he said with a smile. "If they need me, I'll punt."
That's the captain's philosophy with the Black Knights. Whatever needs to be done, he does it.
With playing in offense, defense and on special teams, Green never leaves the field, and that's a good thing for the Black Knights, because the senior has a way of coming up with a big play when the Black Knights need it.
Let's go to back to the Canton game for a minute.
In the first quarter, the Bulldogs took a 7-0 lead on a touchdown pass from Brian Hagan to Thomas Monagle, but that went away quickly. On the kickoff, Green took off for an 85-yard touchdown.
Before the first half ended, Green stepped in front of the pass and went 45 yards with an interception for a 20-7 lead.
"I saw the quarterback looking to my side, and my assignment was to shift there," he said. "I was going for the block, but it stuck to my hand."

Black Knights Ready for Sharon

After winning the Super Bowl a year ago, the Eagles have struggled this year with a 1-4 record going into the game. Last year, it was Sharon, though, that ended Stoughton's playoff hopes, something the Black Knights want to avoid happening this year.
If Stoughton beats Sharon tonight and then finishes with a win at Foxborough next Friday, the Black Knights will headed for the playoffs for the first time.
Burke hasn't been focusing on the postseason. After beating Canton, he was just worrying about beating the Eagles.
