Stoughton Patch College Sports Notebook: Hanson Earns First Collegiate Win at BU

Stoughton's Victoria Hanson earned her first career win as the Harvard University women's ice hockey team defeated Connecticut, 6-2, at Walter Brown Area Wednesday. The freshman goaltender made a career-high 26 saves. BU improved to 7-1-1 overall. Hanson played at Lawrence Academy.  BU will play Maine Saturday at 4 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m.

-Stoughton's Nick Green earned NECC Runner of the Year honors when he was the first to cross the line at the NECC Cross Country Championships at Bay Path College, capturing the individual title while leading the Lynx to their fifth straight NECC title with the top time of 27:07.00.  

-Dartaye Ruffin of Stoughton is in his senior year at Drexel University for the men's basketball team. As a junior, he started 29 out of 30 games at forward. The 6-8, 250-pound forward averaged 6.8 points and 6.7 rebounds. The Dragons will be opening up the season Friday night at UCLA.

-Former Stoughton High standout Marcus Middleton is a freshman on the WPI men's basketball team. WPI will be opening up the season Saturday, Nov. 16, at Rensselear. Middleton will get a chance to play close to home when the Engineers are at Curry College Tuesday, Nov. 19, for a 7 p.m. game.

-Matt Green caught am 18-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Mike McCarthy as the Bridgewater State football team came-from-behind to beat Westfield State, 26-20. The junior wide receiver finished the game with seven catches for 88 yards and two touchdowns. On the season, Green has 54 catches for 1,080 yards and 15 touchdowns. He is also averaging 20 yards a catch. Bridgewater State will be taking a 5-3 record into Saturday's noon home game against Framingham State. They will be ending the season in the 35th Annual Ocean Spray Cranberry Bowl at Mass. Maritime, Saturday, Nov. 16. at noon.

-After missing last season with a knee injury, Stoughton's Val Driscoll, a former standout at Archbishop Willams, is back for the University of Michigan women's basketball team. Michigan defeated Wayne State, 81-55, Nov. 2 in an exhibition game. Driscoll made 13 minutes into her return. The senior has earned two varsity letters at Michigan. The Wolverines will be playing Bowling Green in New Rochelle, N.Y., Friday, Nov. 8, at 4 p.m. Then either Arizona or Iona Saturday at 1 or 3 p.m.
