Stoughton High Swim Team Looks to Make a Splash This Season

The Stoughton High swimming team comes into the season with high expectations, looking to become one of the most competitive teams in the Hockomock League. The Knights, who are a fairly young team, have many returnees and new faces who look to make a splash this year for Stoughton.

The team, which is co-ed, is headlined by five captains (a trio of senior girls and two junior boys).

When swimming up to their potential this group of student-athletes is one that could give some of the usual contenders a good run for their money.

First meet: The Knights hit the pool Wednesday 12/12/12 at 4:30 p.m. as they open their season at their home pool against Mansfield. The Knights home pool is located at Randolph High School.

Captains: Girls - Caroline Cusack, Rhini Ayers and Marie Maillet; Boys - Hunter Goodrich and Zach Monahan

Burning Question: Who replaces swimmers Taylor Goodrich (girls) and Marc Romano (boys), both Hockomock League All-Stars?

Senior captain Caroline Cusack offered some insight on who could replace the former Stoughton standouts.

"Those two were great swimmers for us last year but we have another strong group of swimmers this year. This year we include a core of Hunter Goodrich [also a Hockomock League All-Star], Zach Monahan, Jon Kerman, Dylan Freitas, Kathleen Walsh, Rhini Ayers, Marie Malliet and myself to try and help duplicate the success of those two great swimmers we lost."

Outlook:  Junior captain Zach Monahan weighed in on the up-coming season:

"I'm really enthusiastic about our prospects this year. We were worried because we had lost so many talented swimmers last year, but we had a great turnout and many new swimmers have joined the team."

Monahan is confident that the Knights can get solid individual performances from top to bottom this year.

"We all are hoping to break our own personal records, and with this group of kids, I am certain that this will happen," he said. 

Cusack also talked about the 5 captains roles on the team this season.

"I think each of us bring something different to the table. As a team we make a wonderful set of captains, and I am honored to be captain alongside these people."

It is looking to be an interesting season for the Knights in the pool this year, and the squad is looking like a team that can put Stoughton swimming back on the map.
