Stoughton High Sports Roundup: Volleyball Edged on Road; Field Hockey, Soccer Come Up Short

After losses on Monday, the Stoughton High volleyball and boys' and girls' soccer teams are back in action Friday, while the field hockey team plays again on Thursday.

VOLLEYBALL

The Stoughton High varsity volleyball team fell at Foxborough, 3-1, in a close match Monday afternoon. After losing the first set, Stoughton came back and won the second, but the Warriors won the final two to take the match.

All three sets lost Stoughton were by just two points, the smallest margin of victory or defeat in volleyball.

Starring for Stoughton in a losing effort were Emma Zuk with 36 assists, 20 digs, and 1 pancake; Ashley Medeiros with 17 digs and 7 kills; and Nicole Daniels with 21 kills.

Stoughton is now 4-2 and will travel to Oliver Ames this Friday.

The Stoughton JV team defeated Foxboro 2-0, and the Stoughton freshmen team defeated Foxboro 3-0.

FIELD HOCKEY

The Stoughton High varsity field hockey team lost a hard fought game to Oliver Ames 1-0, Monday afternoon at home.

Katie Cellucci had 14 saves in goal. Masha Lourie and Michelle Connolly had strong games at midfield.

The defeat comes on the heels of another close loss to a Hockomock League foe, 2-0 to Foxborough on Sept. 20. In that game, Cellucci turned in another solid effort in goal making 15 saves.

Stoughton is now 2-4-1 on the season. The team is next in action Thursday at Milford.

The Stoughton JV field hockey team lost to Oliver Ames 4-1 on Monday. Ashley Chipman scored the only goal. Beth Sloane played well in goal as a last minute substitute. On Sept. 20, the JV team defeated Foxboro 1-0 on a goal by Samantha Mattie. Kara Ploss played well, earning the shutout in goal.

SOCCER

The Stoughton High boys' soccer team lost at Oliver Ames 3-0 on Monday, but the Black Knights earned its first win of the season Sept. 21 at Foxborough, with Dylan Freitas and Evan Schulze scoring the goals. Stoughton (1-5) hosts Milford on Friday.

Meanwhile, the Stoughton High girls' soccer team lost to Oliver Ames at home on Monday, 8-0, but the Black Knights turned in perhaps their best performance of the season vs. Foxborough on Sept. 21, a 1-0 loss, with Rachel Berkowsky playing well in goal. Stoughton (0-6) travels to Milford on Friday.
