Stoughton High Scoreboard: Baseball, Softball Win; Boys' Track Goes for Davenport Title

Varsity Baseball

  • Record: 7-6
  • Recap:  Pat Jackman's 2-out double in the bottom of the seventh inning scored Mike Gallagher from second base, and gave Stoughton a walk-off win over rival Sharon. Will McGrath (4 innings) and Gallagher (3 innings) combined to pitch for Stoughton, shutting the Eagles down.

  • Record: 6-6
  • Recap:  Sam Werman pitched well for Stoughton keeping the Black Knights in the game, but the bats were silent Friday afternoon. Stoughton was only able to rack up two hits, one by junior Jiovani Pires and one by senior captain Mike Connelly. Freshman Jake Gibb pitched 2 1/3 innings in relief of Werman, only allowing one run.

  • Recap: Stoughton scored nine runs in the first two innings, and put the game away scoring nine more runs in the sixth inning. Jessica Greer had 5 RBI for Stoughton, while Autumn Durham and Bridgette Whalen knocked in 3 each.

  • Recap:  Trailing 1-0, Jake Gibb led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a triple to deep centerfield. A sacrifice from Pat Raeke brought Gibb home to tie the game, but Mansfield responded with three runs in the top of the sixth to go ahead for good, 4-1.

  • Record: 3-7
  • Recap: The varsity softball team lost to Mansfield 1-0 in extra innings (8 innings). Emma Zuk and Payton Pizzano had the only hits for the Black Knights and both played well defensively. Emily Cramer took the loss, but pitched well carrying a shutout into extra innings. Megan Flaherty also had a strong game at shortstop.

  • Recap: Courtney Campbell led the freshman softball team, hitting a home run in the first, and following that up with a grand slam in the second inning.

  • Recap: First singles player Kiana Kountze lost for only the third time this season (7-3), 1-6, 1-6.   • Score: Boys (4-0) beat Oliver Ames, 91-45; girls (0-4) lose to OA, 112-24.
  • Recap: In another dominating performance, the Stoughton boys remain unbeaten. Andrew Valle, Malachi Baugh and Samir Sofi all won multiple events. Stoughton throwers (shot put, discus, javelin) picked up 26 out of a possible 27 points. On the girls' side, top performers included Amy Kelly and Ariene Ohimor.

  • Record: 6-4
  • Recap:  Mike Gallagher led Stoughton to victory, pitching six solid innings, while also driving in a run on offense. In addition to Gallagher, Pat Jackman, Will McGrath, Zach Gibb (2), Pat Raeke (2), and Jiovani Pires all had RBI for Stoughton.

  • Recap:  Senior Captain Jordan Angelos had a single, and scored the lone run, and also played a strong game defensively. Sophomore catcher Payton Pizzano had a strong game throwing out three baserunners attempting to steal and tagging out a runner at the plate.

  • Recap: Devin Bates, Erin Pike and Meghan Dixon had the hits. Bates had a strong defensive game at shortstop. On April 26, Stoughton defeated Canton 17-5. Erin Pike led the offense, going 5 for 5 with 5 runs scored. Lauren Johnson pitched well for the win.

  • Recap: In another dominating performance, the Stoughton boys remain unbeaten to start the season. Jason Marshall and Malachi Baugh were among the top performers. On the girls' side, top performers included Ariene Ohimor and Amy Kelly. The 4 x 100-meter relay team of Kadijah Dansby, Imani David, Maya Barrant and Megan Crimmins qualified for states with a winning time of 53.3 seconds.

  • Recap:  Stoughton came out on the winning end of a pitchers' duel. Mike Dixon turned in a gem, tossing 6+ innings of shutout ball. Zach Gibb came on with two runners on in the seventh and recorded the save. Will McGrath drove in the lone run of the game.

First singles Jalen Joseph won a back-and-forth three set match, 5-7, 7-6, 10-4 (super tie break); Zach Monahan picked up a 6-1, 6-3 win at third singles; First doubles Sheldon Oliveira and Chris Oliveira won at first doubles, 6-4, 6-3; and second doubles Adam Potter and James Comeau picked up a win, 6-1, 7-6. Mike Holmes III played well at second singles, losing 6-7, 2-6.

  • Recap: Stoughton picked up its second win of the season beating visiting Oliver Ames. First singles player Kiana Kountze improved her personal record to 5-1 this season, winning 7-6, 6-0. Third singles Beth Sloane (7-5, 6-4) and first doubles Victoria Tran and Chelsea Morganelli (6-2, 6-2) also picked up wins in straight sets.

  • Recap: Pat Raeke (RBI double) and Mike Connelly (RBI single) helped get Stoughton on the board early, but a six-run third inning from Oliver Ames propelled the Tigers past the Black Knights. A Connelly double in the seventh helped Stoughton chip away at the deficit, but Oliver Ames held on for the win.

  • Recap: The Frehman Softball Team lost 9-3 to Taunton on Monday despite a big day at the dish from Courtney Campbell who finished 3-4 with a stolen base and 2 runs scored.  Mikayla Berteletti and Morgan Milavec also picked up hits in the losing effort.  Kara Ploss pitched well in relief only giving up one earned run in 6 innings.

Zach Monahan moved to second singles and had a marathon match (6-4, 2-6, 4-6) which was still going on after first doubles and second doubles completed their matches. Adam Potter moved to cover third singles. JV player Jon Oliveira joined James Comeau to play second doubles. Sheldon Oliveira and Cris Oliveira remained at first doubles, and just missed picking up a win in three great looking sets (3-6, 6-4, 1-6).

  • Recap: The Stoughton varsity softball team lost to Franklin 4-3.  Leading the way for the Black Knights was freshman Nicole Bodette who connected for two triples and a double, while Megan Flaherty had a triple.  Emily Cramer pitched well in the losing effort.   • Recap: Val Sammarco made a nice defensive play in left field, but the Panthers quieted the Stoughton bats.

Freshman Softball

  • Score: Franklin 10, Stoughton 7
  • Recap: Courtney Campbell played an outstanding game at shortstop, going 2-4 with a triple. Stoughton led the whole game until the 6th when a few errors opened the flood gates. The Black Knights battled back to score three in the 7th, but the deficit was too big to overcome.

Varsity Track

  • Score: Boys (1-0) beat Sharon, 76-60; girls (0-1) edged by Sharon, 70.5 to 65.5.
  • Recap: Leading the way for the Stoughton boys were Malachi Baugh, who won the 100-meter, 200-meter, and long jump, and Andrew Valle, who won the javelin, triple jump, and placed second in the 110-meter high hurdles. On the girls' side, Ariene Ohimor won the shot put and the discus and already qualified for states in the discus with a throw of 96'4". Full recap and photos to follow later on Stoughton Patch.

  • Recap: The varsity softball team opened the season Tuesday with a 10-9 loss at Attleboro. Senior captain Megan Flaherty had a strong day at the plate going 3 for 4 with a home run and 5 RBI, while Nicole Bodette, Jordan Angelos, and Payton Pizzano each had three hits on the day. Stoughton will play this Thursday against Franklin in the home opener.

Junior Varsity Softball 

  • Score: Attleboro 20, Stoughton 7
  • Record: 0-1
  • Recap: The JV Softball team lost to Attleboro 20-7. Katie Cellucci led the offense with two hits, while Delaney Collins had a 2-run home run. Devin Bates played well defensively.

Varsity Baseball 

  • Score: Attleboro 4, Stoughton 0
  • Record: 0-1
  • Recap: Attleboro pitcher Adam Woodhead quieted the Stoughton bats, pitching six shutout innings. Stoughton freshman second baseman Jake Gibb had a deep double to centerfield in his first official varsity at bat. Mike Gallagher pitched well for the Black Knights.   • Recap: Battling very windy and cold conditions, Stoughton fell to Attleboro on Tuesday. First doubles tandem Sheldon Oliveira and Cris Oliveira picked up Stoughton's lone individual win, taking their match, 7-5, 3-6, 6-0. Click here to see photos from the match. 

Girls' Tennis

  • Score: Attleboro 4, Stoughton 1
  • Record: 0-1
  • Recap: Kiana Kountze picked up the lone individual win for Stoughton at first singles, beating her opponent 6-4, 6-1. Also playing well at singles was fellow senior co-captain Vicky Tran (2-6 3-6 loss).  The doubles team of juniors Beth Sloane and Chelsea Morganelli came up just short losing 6-4, 5-7, 3-6.
