Stoughton High Indoor Track Teams Split Against Sharon

Leesa Snyder paced the girls in a winning effort against Sharon. Despite a loss on the boys' side, several Stoughton athletes qualified for the state meet, held later this season.

The indoor track teams split Thursday’s meet against Hockomock Davenport Division rival Sharon, held at Boston University, with the SHS girls’ winning 69-26 and with the SHS boys’ falling 59-35.

The Stoughton girls’ improve to 3-1, while the boys’ are 1-3. Both squads turned in several solid individual efforts.

On the girls’ side, coach Bob Clarke said Leesa Snyder was the “athlete of the meet,” for her win in the long jump and her second place finish in the hurdles. She already has in the hurdles, which is held later this season.

Ifeoma Okeke won the dash; Jade Paul won the 600-meter event; Julia Quattrucci won the 1000-meter event; Deirdre Simms won the mile and Alicia Macomber came in first in the hurdles.

4 x 400-meter relay team of Quattrucci, Rachel Berkowsky, Mackenzie Hudson and Paul also finished first.

On the boys’ side, Malachi Baugh qualified for states in both the 300-meter event and in the 55-meter dash.

Pat Jackman, who has already qualified for the state meet in the and , qualified in the 300-meter event.

The 4 x 400-meter relay team of Andrew Kelly, Zach Gibb, Jason Marshall and Nick Green also qualified for states.

Kevin Lucas improved by almost 3 feet in the shot put.

Boys’ coach Harvey Blonder said other personal bests were turned in by John Eppenstein and Michael Paulkner in the hurdles; Harley David in the dash; Lennox Green in the 300-meters; Sheldon Oliviera in the 600-meters; David Lockhart and Gabe Garcia in the 1000-meters; and Gibb in the high jump.

The 4 x 200-meter relay team of Lennox Green, Mike Romaine, Jack D'Addieco and Oliviera also turned in a personal best.

The varsity teams will be taking part in the MSTCA relays this Sunday at the Reggie Lewis Center. Meanwhile, freshmen and sophomores have a meet Monday in Franklin.
