Stoughton High Girls' Track Falls by Half a Second at Canton

The Stoughton girls' track team was edged by Canton 70-66 Tuesday on the road.

Half a second made the difference for the Canton High girls’ track team in their win over Stoughton Tuesday at Canton.

The Bulldogs earned a narrow 70-66 victory against the Black Knights, with Canton’s 4 x 100-meter relay team finishing in 55.3 seconds, 0.5 seconds ahead of Stoughton’s 55.8 second finish.

With the loss, the Stoughton team falls to 1-3.

Coach Bob Clarke said there many top performances, including Julia Quattrucci, who led the team with 11.25 points, winning the 800-meter run, the javelin and was part of the winning 4 x 400-meter relay team.

continued her strong spring season, easily winning the 400-meter dash in 58.8 seconds. Paul also finished second in the high jump (4’6”) and anchored the 4 x 400-meter relay team with a time of 59 seconds.

Deirdre Simms ran away with the 2-mile race, winning in 12:52.8. She was followed by her teammate Kerry O'Neils, who finished in 13:27.8, a personal record.

Other personal bests were set by Niamh Fennessy (2:50.4) and Carson McGrath (2:52.3) in the 800-meter and by Emelina Kozak (6:11) and Rebekah Medina (6:23) in the mile.

Clarke also gave credit to his athletes in the throwing events. Chrystal Holland finished second in the shot put and the discus. Holland had a throw of 64'8" in the discuss, followed by teammate Nobrina Seng (60'5"). Haley Ellertson finished second in the javelin (85'1").

The team travels to King Philip next Thursday.
