Stoughton High Girls’ Tennis Comes Out on Right End of 3-2 Decision Against OA

Stoughton edged Oliver Ames 3-2 Saturday at Stonehill College.

After having gone 1-4 in their last five matches, with all four losses coming by , the Stoughton High girls’ tennis team found itself on the right side of a 3-2 decision Saturday, coming away with a 3-2 win against Oliver Ames at Stonehill College.

With the win, Stoughton was able to avenge a earlier this season on May 9. The Black Knights improve to 4-12.

Kiana Kountze-Lee at first singles, Val Szeto and Olivia Panacy at first doubles and Taylor Goodrich and Vicky Tran at second doubles earned the points for Stoughton in the victory.

Kountze-Lee won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, recording her second win against OA this season.

Szeto and Panacy won the first set of their match in a tie-breaker, 7-6 (7-4) and won the second set 6-3. Goodrich and Tran pushed their individual winning streak to six consecutive matches with a 6-1, 6-2 win.

Stoughton coach Bill Donovan said singles players Kara Morse and Ally Cohen played well in defeat.  “[They] both played tight matches that could have went either way,” he said.

Morse lost 7-6 (8-6), 7-5 and Cohen lost 7-6 (7-1), 6-4.

The team concludes its season this week with matches at Canton on Monday, at Randolph on Tuesday and a Hockomock League crossover match at Stonehill on Wednesday.

The crossover match features a matchup between teams in the Davenport Division and Kelly-Rex Division of the Hockomock League that finished in the same spot in the standings.
