Stoughton High Girls’ Indoor Track Overcomes Injuries in Win Over Canton

Alicia Macomber, Kerry O'Neil, Deirdre Simms and Nobrina Seng all won individual events contributing to Stoughton's victory.

Led by Alicia Macomber’s 13 points, the beat Canton 50-44 Saturday at BU.

With the win, Stoughton improves to 1-1 on the season.

Macomber won the 55-meter hurdles in a new school record time of 8.95 seconds. She also won the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.70 seconds, edging teammate Ifeoma Okeke, who also finished in 7.70 seconds. Macomber rounded out her day coming in second in the long jump.

Coach Bob Clarke said many of the girls on the team had to step up to cover the injured team members in order to win this meet.

Kerry O'Neil doubled, running in the 600-meter event and in the 2-mile. She won the 2-mile with a time of 12:35.51, qualifying for the state meet.

Kelly Collins covered the 300-meter, and ran in her usual hurdles event. Leesa Snyder led off the 4x400 relay and also ran in her usual hurdles event.

Deirdre Simms won the mile and Nobrina Seng won the shot put event.

“Watching all of the girls trying so hard to win was a joy to watch at this great facility, and it paid off for them,” Clarke wrote in an email.
