Stoughton High Football Team's Playoff-Bound

The Black Knights are expecting to find out who they will play in the first round sometime Sunday afternoon.

For the first time in school's history, the Stoughton High football team will be playing in a playoff game next week. The Black Knights made sure of the postseason by finishing in second place in the Hockomock League's Davenport Division with a 41-6 win over Foxborough at Ahern Field in Foxborough Friday night.
"Season one is done and now it's into the second season," said Stoughton head coach Greg Burke. "We're not pretty, but I didn't know it was a pageant."
The Black Knights are expecting to find out who they will be playing in the first round of Division 3 playoffs Sunday afternoon, according to MIAA site. The meeting will take place at the MIAA office in Franklin at 1 p.m.
"Playoff games are going to be tough," he said. "Hopefully, we can get a home game and hopefully, we can play well."
Sophomore quarterback Jake Gibb stepped in the starting role for senior Stanley Sajous, who was out with an injury, gave the Black Knights a 7-0 lead. On a fourth down and goal from the Foxborough 3-yard line, Gibb rolled out to the left and dove into the end zone. He then kicked the first of five extra points on the night for a 7-0 lead halftime lead. The score was set-up by a finger-tipped interception by Jovani Pires.
The game got away from the Warriors in the second quarter as the Black Knights increased their lead to 28-0. Joe Girolamo ran for two scores from 17-yards and 4-yards. In between those two scores, Gibb threw a 45-yard pass to Kevin McDonald.
Foxborough got its only touchdown on their first drive of the fourth quarter. Junior quarterback Nolan Rogers fired a strike to junior tight-end Derek Gilreath for a 9-yard score, cutting the lead to 28-6.
Stoughton's final two scores on the game came on long runs by Lennox Green, 41-yards, and Taylor Calisi, who scored the first time he touched the ball, going 69-yards for the final points of the night.
With the win, the Black Knights improved to 6-1 on the season, while Foxborough dropped to 4-3. The Warriors will finish out the season playing against other teams who didn't make the playoffs.
"I'm really happy we got it done," said Burke.
