Stoughton High Football Team Beats Hopkinton in Semifinals

The Stoughton High football team has a date in the Division 3 Southwest semifinals after beating Hopkinton, 33-6, Friday night at home. The 8-1 Black Knights will now play 9-0 Oliver Ames- for the South title. OA defeated North Attleboro, 27-13, in other semifinal match. The two rivals will square off Friday, Nov. 15, at Oliver Ames in a 7 p.m.

Stoughton jumped out to a 20-0 halftime. Jovani Pires finished off a drive with a two-yard run off right tackle for a 6-0 lead in the first quarter.

The Black Knight got two touchddowns from Lennox Green in the second quarter. First, the senior ran for five-yard score and then he caught a 49-yard pass from sophomore quarterback Jake Gibb. The last touchdown was set up a big defensive play on a goal line stand. Senior nose tackle Frank Girolamo broke free in the Hopkinton backfield, tackling quarterback Pat Ryan, while knocking the ball free. He then came up with the fumble recovery at the four-yard line.

In the fourth quarter, Pires ran for a 14-yard score for a 26-0 lead.

After forcing Hopkinton to punk, Green went through the Hillers' defense for a 67 yard score and a 33-0 lead.

Hopkinton prevented the shutout as Ryan found Nck D'Aloia for a 26-yard score.
